Power Electronics Research Engineer Farnham, Surrey£35-55k bonus This is an exciting opening for a PhD graduate to join an expanding and successful electric vehicle company. The role will require the research and development of inverters for their electric drivetrain / electric motor drive systems. Overview: Development of new power electronic architectures and hardware solutions Investigation of new power electronic technologies (SiC wide band gap devices) Development and validation of prototype power electronic designs Research of new methods and ideas for power electronics design and product improvement The company is involved with the design and development of innovative electric drive units / powertrain systems for the electric vehicle domain. An interest or previous experience of electric vehicle electronics and power electronics systems would be useful. More: Power Electronics Research Engineer The Power Electronics Research Engineer will be required develop high level concept designs to support feasibility investigations. This may be customer lead and may also involve collaboration with academic institutions. You will work in a small team of similar academic but practical engineers and researchers all striving to improve existing technologies and drive new innovative ideas through to practical solutions. Skills / knowledge required: Power Electronics Research Engineer A degree and higher degree in a relevant subject (e.g. mechatronics, electronics engineering, computer science) A relevant PhD would be preferred Good written and verbal communication skills coupled with a self-starting and enthusiastic attitude to managing and delivering projects Excellent background in power electronics design, development and research (ideally inverters for electric motor drive unites) Knowledge of power electronic semiconductor devices (IGBT, SiC / wide band gap) Able to develop concepts and ideas into working prototypes Practical electronics development experience coupled with circuit simulation experience Experience of thermal modelling using appropriate simulation tools Others (beneficial): Power Electronics Research Engineer Experience of electric motor drives, motor controllers, hybrid vehicles, power electronics, or automotive ECUs A relevant internship within the automotive sector as an electronics design engineer would be great The automotive company offers excellent benefits including relocation, bonus, pension, private medical and holidays.
