In addition to this, our haematology units enables nurses to deliver high standards of holistic care to their patients and deal with patients who have a variety of haematological malignancies. Working with us in this role, you’ll receive specialist training in working with oncology patients in order to provide them with support every step of the patient pathway. Job Description As a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will support patients and deliver care across a number of HCA facilities in the Central London area to provide specialist nursing advice and act as a clinical expert to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients with Breast Cancer. The Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist is a patient advocate and key worker for individual patients who are either being investigated for Breast Cancer or have a diagnosis of Breast Cancer and is there to provide support, education and care across the whole pathway, from diagnosis, through to treatment and beyond, including Surgery/Oncoplastic surgery, localised specialist Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, antibodies, parp inhibitors, targeted therapies, Endocrine accompanied with CDK4/6 AND MTOR inhibitors, specialist locoregional treatments and immunotherapy/chemotherapy. We care for our patients in the curative, follow-up and metastatic setting. We also work closely with the clinical trials Sarah Cannon Centre. The Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist maintains excellent communications with the patient’s Consultant and all members of the Multidisciplinary team whilst educating and supporting the patient holistically. The Breast CNS provides educational and information about treatments, their benefits, limitations, side effects and alternative options. The CNS also assists in managing symptoms in relation to Oncology and Surgical interventions, provides emotional support and empowers the patient to feel comfortable with their individual treatment plans and choices. Part of our role includes sign-posting patients to wider support services and visual educational material both inside our Organisation and in the community. The attractive and competitive salary for this role is between £45,754 - £52,000 (dependent upon skills and experience. Duties & Responsibilities Supporting patients who are being investigated, diagnosed with Breast Cancer or who are at high risk of developing Breast Cancer Being and advocate and key-worker to each individual patient and their family/friend support network Enable people to access, identify, appraise and interpret complex technical information, to enable people to determine their own future Provide expert clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across service boundaries. Promote and use clinical expertise, clinical acumen, creative reasoning and experience to advance care. Liaise closely with the MDT coordinator to support the collection of clinically sound, robust cancer data by the MDT as mandated by local and national policy. Influence strategic developments in pursuit of advancement of quality patient care and the patient’s experience. Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care and development of services to enhance the patient/carer experience. Professional development through individual academic learning, mandatory training, team learning and imparting knowledge to other team members and attending conferences to maintain and update knowledge Educate and teach other healthcare professionals Maintain service development and improvement through clinical governance and introduction of new ideas, audits, protocols and pathways Wound healing management following surgical interventions Signposting and providing links/communications and referral to charity organisations and supports Lymphoedema education and referral to appropriate services Close communications and links with palliative care, GP’S and all community services Awareness of NHS Cancer Strategy and development Skills and Experience Registered Nurse Level 3 years in either Surgery or Oncology with Breast cancer experience and or has preferably experience as working as a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist NMC Registration Post Registration Qualification relevant to the role, Breast Cancer Course or Diploma Experience of working within the Clinical Nurse Specialist role or similar senior level Knowledge of relevant national cancer policies and procedures Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills About The Individual At HCA UK we recognise and value everyone as unique and individual; treat people with kindness and compassion; act with absolute honesty, integrity, and fairness and trust and treat one another as valued members of the HCA UK family.
