Frontline Manager - Learning Disabilities

MacIntyre ,
Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Salary: £24,335.00 per annum plus fantastic benefits

Overview

Do you have experience working with people who have learning disabilities? Are you ready to lead a team? You’ll manage our supported living service in Westoning, near Flitwick, which is home to four gentlemen with a learning disability. If you’re a golf fan you’ll get on well with one of the men, while another enjoys nothing more than a day trip to London on the train. One chap who is of retirement age would describe himself as a “gentleman of leisure” and relishes time in the local garden centre, or going out for a relaxed dinner or a drink. Their support needs vary: two are fairly independent; two require full support including personal care. All are aged 40. One man can display behaviours of concern, but incidents are infrequent and a full positive behaviour support plan is in place for him. You may currently be a Senior Support Worker or Deputy Manager. Perhaps you’ve managed a team before. So long as you share our values and have the right skills and qualities, we will support you to do a great job. You’ll always have the advice and experience of our committed and ambitious area management team to draw on, and you will be part of our formal leadership training scheme. About us MacIntyre is an award-winning national charity supporting people with learning disabilities, celebrating each person’s unique gifts, talents and contributions. We use person-centred approaches to keep the people we support safe, happy and healthy and to ensure each individual is able to live a life that makes sense to them. We see the person first, not their behaviour or disability. As a frontline manager, your work will be crucial in helping us deliver our vision both for people we support and for our staff. About the role You’ll lead and develop your staff team, managing performance constructively, watching staff grow in confidence and ability. You’ll provide day-to-day mentoring and support to all staff. You’ll also work with our in-house learning, development and quality teams to ensure everyone has access to the formal training they need. A key skill for this role is the ability to develop positive, lasting relationships with families, health professionals and other stakeholders. We place a high premium on people being able to get out and about and enjoy their interests, building great interactions with the local community. You will therefore need a valid manual driving licence in order to drive our small people carrier vehicle. You will manage the rota, which covers 24/7 support across the service, which is split across two houses. You’ll need be a visible presence for staff across the shifts, and will provide direct support yourself when required. All our frontline managers participate in the area “on-call” rota.
