Overview
Job Title: Care Support Assistant Location: Pagham Hourly rate: £11.00 Reference: TM96 Hours/shifts: Wednesday 9am - 4pm & 7pm - 10pm Thursday 9am - 4pm & 7pm - 10pm Every other weekend: Saturday 10am - 4pm Sunday 10am - 4pm Hours and times can vary slightly so please apply if you can do any of the above shifts as we are open to job shares. Summary • I am looking for a Support/Care Assistant to join a friendly team of carers who already support my son who has Muscular Dystrophy • My son is totally reliant on carers and needs support with all aspects of personal care. This includes dressing, washing, cleaning teeth etc. • Ceiling hoists are used for all transfers - full training will be provided. • My son is a sociable individual who really enjoys the company of his carers. He has a passion for star wars, coin collecting and loves watching Sci-Fi and comedy films. • My son is reliant on a non invasive ventilator to assist with breathing. A suction machine is also required regularly throughout the day. • PA’s would also be required to provide nutrition and medication though a Gastrostomy tube - full training will be provided • Full driving license needed so that the carer can take my son out in the community in his adapted vehicle. • This is a rewarding role with all professional training provided. Other Requirements • Must be comfortable with pets (two small, friendly dogs) • Must have a full clean UK driving licence • Must be willing to drive the employers adapted vehicle • Other : All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - There will be some occasional domestic duties which could include; Loading and unloading the washing machine Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line Changing bed linen Bed making General cleaning/dusting/vacuuming of client’s own bedroom Taking out rubbish Preparing gastro feeds and attaching to machine/pump Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Making phone calls on clients behalf when I am too unwell to do this Making tea for the clients guests Personal Care: • Washing and bathing - towelling dry/ drying hair • Hoisting into and out of bat • Constant supervision when in bath • Applying creams • General hair/skin care • Catheter care • Hoisting on and off toilet • Dressing and undressing • Hoisting into/out of bed or chair • Giving medication through gastrostomy tube • Giving inhalers • Monitoring ventilator levels and adjusting/changing mask when required • Using a cough assist machine • Using Suctioning machine 'as and when’ required • Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, Social: • Providing social interaction and companionship within our family home or out about locally in the community. • Taking my son out in the community using his adapted vehicle • The above duties will involve driving the my son's adapted vehicle/car, fixing the electric chair into the adapted car and ensuring that the chair secure. Person specification The successful applicant will be: Respectful of my son's privacy and confidentiality • Reliable with good time-keeping • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills • Honest and cheerful • Creative • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
