Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Technician to join our busy offices based in Bournemouth on a temporary basis for 12 months with the possibility of an extension. We are looking for someone to start ASAP, working 37 hours per week, at £13.99 p/h PAYE. As the Accounting Technician , your main duties will include: To provide timely and effective services in accordance with the tasks allocated to this post To provide financial advice and prepare management information for service units To contribute to the development and achievement of the service units aims To provide comprehensive, professional accounting and financial advice to budget holders, managers, council officers and external bodies in relation to financial matters such as budgets, income and expenditure and relevant information ensuring informed decisions can be made. To ensure proper accounting records are maintained, which are up to date, robust and adhering to strict deadlines in accordance with professional and statutory criteria. To ensure that the Council's financial systems are accurate, complete and provide a sound basis for promoting active compliance, sound financial practice and for monitoring revenue and expenditure against budgets. To ensure that the year-end accounts are prepared in an accurate and timely way and in accordance with an accounting practice To provide effective and accurate financial advice, training and expertise to other Council officers, whilst advocating adherence to the Council's Financial Regulations and Procurement rules. To ensure that the Council's allocation and use of resources are subject to robust and regular monitoring and are reviewed against realistic budgets in accordance with the Council's governance requirements. To assist budget holders to make the best use of available and appropriate sources of funding and to complete Government returns and grant claims as required To ensure that the Council acts within its legal and regulatory framework To develop new or enhanced systems and procedures to facilitate efficient financial management Any other duties that may be required to be performed as directed by the Head of Accountancy Services Ability to understand and consistently apply basic numerical skills Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, with a good working knowledge of other Microsoft packages e.g. Word and PowerPoint Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with confidence to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, Senior Management, Members, external audit and statutory bodies. Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in appropriate situations.
