Overview
The Peripatetic Manager is the leader and a working member of the nursing/care team in circumstances where there is no permanent Care Home Manager and, as such, has overall responsibility for the nursing/care management of the Home, maintenance of standards of Service Users’ care and monitoring of performance of all staff. To ensure that standards are maintained and that adequate cover is provided, the Peripatetic Manager will be expected, from time to time, to work at night, at weekends and on bank holidays. The Peripatetic Manager is responsible for directing and motivating the staff team. Due to the nature of this role, the Peripatetic Manager will be required to manage homes at various locations within the UK as and when required. Any changes to the Peripatetic Managers’ allocated homes will continue to be managed by the Regional Head of Quality & Compliance. Duties Promote the Company Mission Statement at all times.To consider every Service User as an individual and treat them with the dignity and respect which their age and experience of life deserves. To meet their own physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a non-judgemental way and to be respectful of the Service Users’ privacy and personal space.To understand that the quality of life is more important than longevity and that our Home is not somewhere to be until they die but to give purpose and enjoyment to life.To understand and promote that the Home is to be a real home for the Service User. This enables the Service User to have the right to make independent decisions about their lifestyle within the context of community living. Service Users who are unable to be totally independent are motivated to achieve more wherever possible.To ensure that each Service User has an individual assessment and person centred care plan, to ensure that the plan is followed and evaluated every month.To ensure that all treatments are carried out in accordance with best practice, and according to the National Care Standards Act 2008. To institute and maintain Company Policies as appropriate.Marketing the business by showing prospective customers around the Home and ensuring that a record is retained of their details for future reference. To oversee the induction of new staff, to take corrective action where necessary and to discuss with the HR Manager and Training Manager any other action or training which may be necessary for individual members of staff.To organise systems of on-the-job, in-service training and ensure that all staff receive required mandatory training, number of supervisions and an annual appraisal. To maintain good communication with Service Users and their relatives and, where possible, to involve them in the individual Service Users’ care plans and monthly reviews.To liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team in order to achieve a multi disciplinary approach to the care provided. To address staffing issues and liaise with HR Manager as required. To supervise and instruct, where necessary, in the carrying out, and ensure compliance of the Health and Safety at Work Act and any other relevant legislation.To maintain adequate supplies of medication and ensure receipt, storage and disposal is carried out in the correct manner according to the Care Quality Commission legislation and Company Medication Policy. To carry out a Quality Assurance system, which obtains the views of the Service Users, in order to be able to measure the success in meeting the Statement of Purpose.Where the Peripatetic Manager is a qualified nurse, to adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct criteria, adhere to the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures and maintain PREPP requirements.To prepare duty rotas covering a four week period at least two weeks prior to the commencement of that rota and to ensure safe staff cover for the Home within the agreed staffing levels.To ensure that the Regional Director is aware of any incidents or accidents to Service Users, staff or visitors and to complete the appropriate forms and documents. To carry out Risk Assessments.To identify any equipment requirements for discussion with the Regional DirectorTo ensure that any equipment found to be faulty is removed from service.To ensure the safe custody of Service Users’ property.To be responsible for the appointment of all new staff as per the Recruitment Policy.To participate in the selection of Service Users for the Home, assessing their needs prior to admission and sending formal letter of acceptance.To assist in the resolution of any complaints as per the company’s Complaints Policy. To monitor the attendance and performance of all staff, to maintain holiday and sickness records and to arrange for adequate cover to be provided. Take corrective action as necessary. To ensure all payments received are recorded appropriately and passed on to the relevant person, as per the Pathways for Information document. To ensure that the Regional Director or RHQC in their absence, is informed immediately of any complaints and any other event which requires notification.When on duty as the Nurse/Person in charge, to carry out the duties of that role.To ensure the update of the computer system as and when necessary with any Service User, staff and timesheet information.To adhere to the Computer Policy as per Company Policy and Employee Handbook. To personally attend mandatory training courses provided.To comply with and ensure compliance of the Employee Handbook.To be flexible and adaptable in participating in other jobs which are necessary for the smooth running of the Home and the safety of the Service Users. To liaise with other Care Managers to develop strategies for all the Homes.To attend, wherever possible, meetings as necessary with line Management. To facilitate meetings with Service Users as well as staff within the Home on a regular basis.To have a firm understanding of requirements detailed in Health and Social Care Act 2008 in line with standards set by the Care Quality Commission. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Home and the Company. Ensure that the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times. Understand the importance of correct record management and own personal responsibilities in maintaining this through passwords, storage of documentation, and sharing information ( both paper based or on electronic systems)Report breaches of records security to line manager or the Caldicott GuardianTo work within the company's Information Governance policies in order maintain security of personal and sensitive data
