Overview

Looking for a job opportunity where no two days are the same? Have you ever thought about working in a prison pharmacy? HMP Hewell is a split site prison separated by approximately half a mile. The larger part is category B, holding up to 1,104 remand, sentenced and vulnerable prisoners and has the potential to hold category A prisoners as well. The smaller part (The Grange) is a category D open site holding up to 204 prisoners. There is an 18 bedded inpatient unit and a dispensing pharmacy on site (both on the Cat B site). Care UK manage the healthcare services at HMP Hewell; we are the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Hewell, we’re looking for Pharmacy Technicians to come and join our team and work in the healthcare department within HMP Hewell. This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week across 7 days on a rotational basis including weekends and public holidays, no nights. Part-time roles will also be considered. The salary for this role is up to £27,540 per annum – dependent on experience (pro-rata for part-time role). About the Job: As a Pharmacy Technician, you will assist with the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high quality prison pharmaceutical service, taking into consideration, at all times, the need to maintain a high level of security. You will be required to work within HMP Hewells healthcare department and hold direct patient contact, which will be part be of a comprehensive healthcare package, based on the prison service’s needs. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be an integral member of the Pharmacy Team, which forms part of the wider cluster of Healthcare Services. Care UK policies and procedures and statutory frameworks governing patient care in a prison setting, will be used in order to deliver the highest standard of care to clients in line with National Guidelines. You'll be required to accept certain activities in relation to the day to day operational management of their unit and as such must ensure that they are trained and competent to take on these additional responsibilities. The standard shift patterns for our pharmacy technicians are currently as follows. Week 1: Monday – 07:30 – 18:30 Tuesday – 07:30 – 18:30 Wednesday – Day off Thursday – Day off Friday – Day off Saturday – 08:00 – 18:00 Sunday – 08:00 – 18:00 Week 2: Monday – Day off Tuesday – Day off Wednesday – 07:30 – 18:30 Thursday – 07:30 – 18:30 Friday – 07:30 – 18:30 Saturday – Day off Sunday – Day off Bank holidays are included in their working patterns and follow weekend hours. Job Requirements: You will hold NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualifications and must have a current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You will also have relevant post-registration experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
