Mechanical Gas engineer role at HMP Littlehey in Huntingdon. £16.87 per hour Your new company As one of the leading suppliers to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades including commercially qualified and experienced Mechanical Gas Engineers in HMP Littlehey, a category C prison, in Huntingdon. You must live local to the area or have your own transport due to the location. This role is based on a single site so no travel allowance is included. Your new role You will be working within the Works Department at HMP Littlehey in Huntingdon and will take accountability for and act as the Gas Safe appointed person. You will be responsible for the planned maintenance and reactive maintenance of all Gas installations on site and will also assist the plumbing team on the site. Duties: You will ensure the sites gas fired appliances and associated systems are safe to operate, maintained to statutory and manufacturers requirements You will ensure that any immediately dangerous gas appliances are identified and shut off in accordance with the gas industry unsafe situations procedure in order to minimise risk to staff and the establishment, identifying the problem and taking remedial action as required You will be responsible for escalating unsafe gas situations through the technical team or directly to the industry regulator when appropriate You will keep abreast of statutory and best practice changes in the specialist combustion industry You will be prepared for ad hoc professional competency assessments undertaken by internal teams and the industry regulator You will keep combustion qualifications up to date by attending assessment courses not less than every five years You will take accountability for reactive maintenance within the prison estate in line with the sites long term goals and objectives You will fault find and ensure satisfactory fault rectification maintaining site services levels at all times What you'll need to succeed: For this role it is essential you meet the following criteria: Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent. CCN1 - Core domestic gas safety and relevant domestic appliance units COCN1 - Core commercial gas safety certificate and relevant commercial units (Desirable) Experience working in a role as a heating engineer, a combustion engineer or equivalent You must be familiar and able to work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements You must be familiar with and able to work to Gas safe (installation and use) regulations 1998 and associated industry standards Experience of working with commercial catering gas appliances would be beneficial Experience of working with HTHW & Steam systems would be beneficial Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems is desirable Excellent organisational skills / Time management / Ability to prioritise and organise own workload / able to work to deadlines Strong communication skills What you'll get in return: £16.87p/h including holiday pay Weekly pay whilst through Hays as an agency worker. You will be single site based at HMP Littlehey in Huntingdon, so there is no travelling as part of the role. Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week minimum.
