Independent Domestic Violence Advisor

Victim Support is looking for a full-time Independent Domestic Violence Advisor in Greater Manchester to work 37.5 hours Monday - Friday and alternate Saturdays. Victim Support (VS) is an independent charity for people affected by crime in England and Wales. We work towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and respect they deserve. Your primary role will be to ensure the provision of support and advocacy services to all clients who are experiencing domestic violence referred by Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference process (MARAC) including cases identified as high risk of serious harm or homicide. You will co-ordinate a multi-agency response that aims to reduce and manage the risk identified. This involves risk assessment, safety planning, and attending court with victims, advising on housing and legal options and service planning. You must have extensive experience of planning and delivering caseloads, with strong crisis management skills and an understanding of the needs of victims experiencing domestic violence. You will be required to attend relevant meetings and will provide regular reports to the Operations Manager and also undertake talks and presentations to local groups and agencies, developing networks and partnerships and increasing the role of the service in the community. Good IT skills, knowledge of criminal justice issues, knowledge of civil orders available to protect victims of domestic violence and an understanding of the effects a court appearance can have on victims and witnesses of crime are also essential requirements. You will be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with people from all areas of the community and be able to assist with the monitoring, evaluation, and administration of written statistical reports on the project for management and our external funders. Experience of working with victims of domestic violence and other service providers and agencies in a statutory, voluntary, and social or community setting would be a distinct advantage.
