Overview
Founded in 1982 by Joseph Gallagher our Chairman, JGL has developed to become the largest and leading tunnelling sub-contractor in the United Kingdom, further developing internationally in the Middle East. Its Construction capability range from complex and intricate tunnelling sequencing involving traditional hand tunnelling techniques, to novel cutting-edge construction methods on large scale tunnelling projects such as Crossrail and Themes Tideway. In addition to the underground construction JGL have successfully developed a reputation for above ground RC structures for residential low to high rise concrete frames. To add to this legacy JGL are further developing its in-house design team capability to meet growing demand of an ever increasing work portfolio of temporary and permanent works designs across the group of companies and have a Senior CAD technician vacancy for an immediate start. Role Summary We are seeking a Senior CAD Technician to join our inhouse design division. The candidate will produce 2D CAD drawings to the Design engineering design details. You will produce Civil engineering drawings of general arrangement and detailing for designs such as: Horizontal Directional drilling design profiles Shaft and tunnel design general arrangement and long sections Detailing drawings, for steel fabrication and RC, typically shaft bases and collars Temporary Works falsework You will have a sound knowledge of proprietary systems for ground shoring and RC frame falsework Responsibilities, but not limited to: Produce engineering drawings to the design engineer’s detail, and interpretation of hand drawn sketches. Produce reinforcement detailing drawing to standard Produce aesthetically pleasing drawings with detail in its simplest form Mentor junior members of the team Work collaboratively within the engineering team and be self sufficient Promotes and contributes to the successful completion of projects Assume responsibility and be helpful Use own initiative to prepare standard detailing for repetitive structural form to develop an economical and streamlined work structure. Qualifications and Skills Advanced experience in the use of 2D AutoCAD Strong written and verbal communication skills Software AutoCAD 3D modelling software advantageous but not essential Engineering design software (under guidance) Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Superior planning and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure on multiple project and to deadlines; Excellent attention to detail Sound decision making skills Ability to work independently Excellent numeracy and analytical skills You will be keen to develop and enhance your professional engineering skills, (mentoring for a professional qualification will be provided to the candidate who naturally gravitates towards hard work and a determination to succeed.) You will possess a demonstrable track record with expertise with a civils background and having worked within a design consultancy environment. You will have the ability to support, mentor and develop junior members of the team.
