Remit of the Role / Job Purpose Software Test Engineer, to ensure that all software that has been developed by both external and the client’s developers is robust and meets both the business and users’ requirements. Job Dimensions The Software Test Engineer role, is a new requirement for this part of the group as they develop more and more cloud-based solutions for Street Lighting, Smart City and beyond · The role sits within the Technology Team base in Sowerby Bridge · The role has fully responsibility for testing all software developments Key Accountabilities The Software Test Engineer will own all software test and validation. They will have the final recommendation if the software is released to customer. · Responsible for quality of all software · Relationship building with both internal and external developers · Development of existing and new software test processes · Identification of new test methods, process and tools. · Create test strategies using agile methodologies · Writing test specifications, plans and procedures · Developing and maintaining test harnesses · Supporting developers with test-drive development, and giving guidance to developers writing test scripts and other code in automated testing where appropriate · Executing test scripts, automated alongside manual testing Job Context · They have strong team values. We care about quality, and we expect testers to get involved at all phases of delivery. · We embrace new tools and technologies and use the right tool for the job. · Involvement from original scoping session through to final sign-off Qualifications, Experience & Skills · You’ll have a relevant degree or equivalent in Computing or related subject and/or at least 2 years’ experience in an online environment. · A recognized test qualification would be welcome, but not a necessity · Exposure to external part software testing (Hardware and its interaction) · You will possess test automation experience, with hands-on experience with automation testing tools · Technical background in coding deployment tools · Knowledge of security testing techniques and potential vulnerabilities · You’ll have a relevant degree or equivalent in Computing or related subject and/or at least 2 years’ experience in an online environment. · You have a deep understanding of web technologies, techniques and practices. Knowledge of open-source technologies an advantage · You have worked with automated testing tools in a web environment and have a strong understanding of automated test frameworks and how to apply them. · You love programming, and you’re proficient in at least one language. · You have experience with Amazon Web Services (or other clouds), and testing cloud-native and containerised applications. · You have experience in a QA environment, including test analysis, test scripting, test execution and defect management. · You’re a natural problem solver. You will regularly deal with ambiguity and apply your judgment to get the best outcome where there is no clear single answer. You analyse options available to select the most appropriate approach. · You have strong communication skills and can articulate complex problems to both technical and non-technical people, verbally and in writing. You engage with people to understand and solve problems.
