Doctoral Internship
Overview
We are excited to be preparing to launch our new five-year plan later this year. It will outline a number of key under-addressed themes for support and would like to ensure that the community we serve is involved in the scoping and preparation of the detailed calls for proposals. To assist in this process of research administration and dissemination we are therefore offering a four-month internship (on a full-time, flexible or part-time (min. 0.6FTE) basis) for a doctoral student beyond your first year of study in a field relevant to the first of our chosen themes: creating suitable housing, living environments and communities for older people. The output As a supporter of the principles contained within the Concordat to support the career development of researchers, we know how important it is to provide development opportunities for early career researchers to spend time outside of the academic environment in areas in which their research and skills can be used for positive impact. By the end of the internship, you will have: - assisted in producing a detailed call for proposals for research project grants which has been approved by our research grants committee (on the delegated authority of the board) with an overall budget of £1M; - led the design of the application process and assessment process; - led the design of the reporting requirements; - learned about the perspectives and governance of the charitable sector and gained first-hand experience of peer review processing; - had a variety of opportunities to provide advice and input into designing the implementation and communication around our new five-year plan and to attend conferences and meetings along with our team. We welcome applications irrespective of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief Salary and term of contract The internship will be for a period of four months starting as soon as possible with candidates needing to have agreed arrangements with their institution to release them from their research for this period. We will reimburse your institution/funder for your stipend based on UKRI agreed award levels for this period and support will be available to assist with travel and living expenses. Before applying for this internship you will need to consult with your institution/funder and gain the appropriate approval for your study period to be extended to allow you to take up the internship if your application is successful. If you are a self-funding student and not in receipt of a stipend we will pay a salary equivalent to Grade 3 spine point 17 of the UK Higher Education Single Pay Spine. Our office is based in central London (between Blackfriars and St Paul’s) and while it is essential that you spend time at the office, we would be happy to negotiate a flexible work pattern to ensure that the opportunity is available to the widest possible range of candidates from around the country.
