What if that person was you? AWE are current recruiting for an Embedded Software / Hardware Developer, on a permanent basis. This role will offer the opportunity to follow the full lifecycle of projects on a high reliability safety related system, this includes development, deployment, support and improvement for both new systems and legacy systems. The role will also include production of custom test equipment and support for in house simulation environment of the production facilities. This role will cover networks, rack mount 68K computers, bespoke IO cards, interfacing with printers, barcode scanners and weighing devices as well as compiler and optimisation debugging. You will be required to: Contribute to the delivery of Conceptual designs, Detail designs, Manufacturing specifications, Operational documentation and validation evidence for Electronic engineering solutions in relation to defined requirements Contribute to the high production availability stats in supporting the 1st line support team on technical queries Identify and support opportunities for improving a current X25 RS232 network with a view to upgrade to a robust Ethernet network Support and enhance a development environment that replicates the production live system to enable software and hardware development Design new solutions to extend the life of the existing legacy bespoke circuit boards To improve and undertake modifications to the Pascal embedded code and compile, optimise and create EPROMS from the binary code produced To be considered for this role, you will ideally have demonstrable experience of the following: Working on complex systems using innovative science and technology, a stage gated design process and be able to show proficiency in fault-finding and problem solving A hands-on approach to designing, building and installing systems such as distributed control systems, network-controlled systems and Motorola 68K based mini computer systems would be beneficial Strong understanding of the Linux environment as well as good C programming skills Good familiarity with PC104's, Raspberry Pi and Arduino's for rapid design concepts Mentoring and coaching members of the team, as this is a key part of the role Strong communication skills BSc in a relevant engineering/computing discipline or proven experience working in a similar environment.
