Job Introduction This is an exciting opportunity to join the Data & Information Services Team working in our Data Engineering team. Your main objective as a SQL Developer/Data Engineer will be to design, develop and deploy data & analytics solutions for stakeholders & colleagues. You will also ensure that data used by the Society, which is transferred between internal systems and external 3rd parties, is fit for purpose. Skipton Building Society have committed to invest in our new Data Strategy which will see us move to new Data Architecture, using cloud-based technologies. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in up and coming technologies with a forward-thinking team. We will be building a new Enterprise Data Warehouse which will mean an expediated end to end data journey for our stakeholders, increasing capacity for change throughout the organisation. As part of the Data & Information Services Team, you will be working alongside other Data Engineers and Analysts, as well as colleagues from across the organisation to deliver trusted solutions that meet the Society’s information needs. As a data expert you will play a key role in the Society change hubs providing data knowledge, interpretation of requirements, producing estimates and supporting the creation of high-level designs. The Data Engineer will be responsible for quality assurance of any new changes to the D&A platform defining an appropriate test strategy, agreeing this approach and expected outcomes with stakeholders. It is also expected that the data engineer will play a pro-active role in identifying process improvements and generating new ideas that will maximise the value of data for the Society. Ideal Candidate This role needs someone with SQL development experience and good knowledge of developing a data warehouse. They need to be creative, respond well to challenges on a day-to-day basis and be comfortable working with ambiguity. We are looking for someone who has excellent problem-solving skills, is logical, and has a desire to deliver a great service to our stakeholders, whilst looking to develop themselves. Experience should include: Knowledge of T-SQL & Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSAS and SSRS) Experience of design and build of ETL processes Experience of data warehouse modelling (i.e. Dimensional Modelling, Enterprise Data Warehouse) Experience of data analysis (any exposure to analytical tools would be advantageous) Exposure to testing and software release management Experience in business process and requirements analysis About Skipton Building Society At Skipton Building Society we are not just another Financial Services Institution we are a mutual organisation, which means we are owned by our members and believe in placing them at the heart of everything we do.
