Overview

Do you have strong experience within plastics packaging and a background in a Production Quality Manager role? Are you very comfortable with the requirements of a whole supply chain and the technical issues that tend to come with it when you are manufacturing a printed packaging product? Our client is a well-established SME production business based local to Manchester. Due to impending retirement, they are looking to recruit an experienced production quality manger to help strengthen their service offering and build on their excellent reputation. Reporting directly to the Sales & Marketing Director, the role of the Production Quality Manager is ultimately to project manage new work, liaise with account managers, maintain regular and relevant contact with off-site production facilities and the overall responsibility for the quality of all manufactured products. This ranges from checking incoming goods and production samples and where necessary investigating and reporting on non-conformances (on or off site) and reporting back with corrective actions, right through to ensuring that manufacturing sites are compliant with all necessary accreditations and can involve some limited overseas travel. A background in printing (and ideally flexible packaging/plastics) is essential for this position as there is limited time to get up to speed before the incumbent person retires. This really is a great opportunity to be involved in multiple site production quality processes whilst still being office based and playing an integral part of the expansion of the business. Main duties to include: Maintain product, systems & audit requirements for relevant certifications Review all new product lines and versions for accuracy of the product specification prior to system loading Maintain or develop alternative to the 'Product Master' which maintains Product Coding, Product Spec Sheet tracking and core Packaging Waste data Create and maintain Job folders, check production samples remain in tolerance and without production errors Annual Declaration of Packaging Waste and identifying reasons for variation to trend and maintaining an explanatory users guide Create Product Specification Sheets for every product line and subsequent amendments / versions. Update the Product Master with amends to packed quantities Create Non-Conformance Documentation and follow-up on all product & systems failures to identify the Root Cause and ensure that the Corrective Action undertaken has been effective. Initiate claim cost recovery from suppliers where required Various other duties associated with a busy multiple off site production operation We are looking for: Strong printing background, ideally with an understanding of flexographic printing Knowledge of flexible packaging/plastics printing Experience and understanding of repro processes Knowledge of artwork development and approval International supply logistics experience Good understanding of quality systems Ability to go overseas occasionally and attend site visits in the UK when needed If you have a basic understanding of chemistry and laboratory testing of packaging and/or print then this would be advantageous (not essential). This role really does need your excellence when it comes to attention to detail, the ability to prioritise your workloads according to deadlines, the capability to work unsupervised and your excellent communication skills.
