Job Title: Project Support Officer Location: Cheadle, Greater Manchester Salary: £25,000 to £28,000 per annum Job Type: Permanent Project Support Officer - About Us: UK Biobank is a large prospective study of 500,000 men and women aged 40-69 from across the United Kingdom, recruited between the years of 2006-2010. A rich variety of genetic, biochemical, lifestyle and health-related information is available on each participant, making the resource unprecedented in its size and scope. The study continues to collect extensive information about its participants with data originating from a range of sources including questionnaires, ongoing assessment clinics, electronic health records, assay technologies (e.g. genotyping, sequencing, multi-omics data), multimodal imaging and biomarker assays. UK Biobank is an open-access resource and since access to UK Biobank opened in 2012, there are now over 12,500 registered researchers worldwide and over 1,500 research applications to use the resource. Project Support Officer - The Role: UK Biobank is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual from a life science background with project co-ordination experience. The post holder will provide timely and efficient support to UKB’s Project Management and Project Delivery teams. Working closely (and primarily) with the UKB’s Project Managers and taking input, where necessary, from UKB’s Director of Operations (DoO), the post holder will be responsible for: - Ensuring that UKB’s Project Management Framework (PMF) is maintained and enhanced in line with the needs of the PM team, the wider organisation and any relevant external standards (eg UKB’s ISO accreditations & certifications), and that the template documents are kept up to date - Ensuring effective and efficient operation of the Project Support Office (PSO) function, overseeing the team and ensuring that tasks are distributed and completed in a timely manner, offering any support needed. - Ensuring reports and/or dashboards are designed and configured within Power BI to support the operational needs (post holder to be the PSO expert in Power BI, providing mentoring, training and familiarising to the PSO and wider project teams) - Ensuring correct configuration of SharePoint to support the PMF and the operational needs of the project (role holder to be the PSO expert in SharePoint, providing mentoring, training and familiarising to the PSO and wider project teams) - Provision of appropriate guidance, support and training to other PSO team members to ensure the above PSO team tasks are carried out in the required time and to the standard required - Provision of administration support to project meetings; including note taking for adhoc scientific meetings. - Coordinating meetings (at PM request) with external parties, including booking travel & accommodation etc - Managing mini projects / sub projects - Provision / coordination of other administrative / project support activities (eg monitoring participant feedback, producing feedback questionnaires assisting with stock management, coordinating equipment calibration and servicing - as agreed with individual PMs) - The role will include some travel Project Support Officer - You: Essential - Excellent IT skills including use of data analysis packages (eg: Excel, PowerBI, etc) and SharePoint - Possesses demonstrable (ideally, project) administrative experience - Able to take scientific minutes and produce accurate record of meetings - Excellent communicator, both spoken and written - Able to work accurately and with attention to detail - Able to exercise good judgement and appropriately prioritise tasks - Excellent organisational skills; possesses the ability to work under pressure - Able to work without day-to-day supervision - Able to report on progress through both formal and informal channels - Experience of working to standard operating processes (SOPs) - Able to work as both part of a team or individually - A (life) science degree or higher qualification - GCSE Maths and English or equivalent - Personable, polite and patient - Discrete and trustworthy Desirable - Project Coordination, Project Management, or Project Office experience with supervisory/task allocation experience. - Familiar with / have experience of working within formal quality systems (eg ISO27001, ISO9001, etc) - Experience of working with a project or admin office; demonstrable ability to work / communicate effectively peers, suppliers and senior stakeholders - Recent quality auditor training / experience - Experience of writing SOPs - At least 12 months experience of supervising a small team Project Support Officer – Benefits: We offer a competitive salary, and holidays based on an equivalent of 26 days holiday, membership of the generous USS pension scheme and several other employee benefits such as cycle schemes and PerkBox are offered.
