Overview

My client is looking for a Principal Transport Planner to join their team in London. A Principal Transport Planner will possess the necessary experience, knowledge and technical expertise to be able to project manage commissions directly or to provide specialist advice and support for other members of the organisation. They must be conversant with national and local planning guidance and technical design standards and be up-to-date with the latest tools available to ensure the accuracy of the advice given in the field of transport planning/highway design. The post will require an ability to think innovatively and proactively and the role will require sound financial and project management skills to ensure that the firm's competiveness in the marketplace is retained. Additionally, a Principal Transport Planner will be called upon to provide essential support to the Directors for certain management, marketing, IT or administrative roles that are essential to the smooth running of the business. They may act as direct line manager for a number of more junior personnel in relation to both general office and project-related management issues and will be expected to mentor those directly below them in order to broaden the company's skill base and expertise. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities associated with the role are as follows:- -To be the principal point of contact on project-related matters or to provide essential support for more senior personnel to ensure successful delivery of a commission; -To provide expertise and advice in all aspects of highway engineering and/or transportation planning; -To identify or assist senior personnel in the identification of the necessary internal and external resources and skills required to fulfil the obligations of each and every commission to the budget and timescale agreed with the client; -When called upon to do so, to liaise/meet with other consultants and external members of the project team where necessary to ensure co-ordination of information and resources; -On those projects for which the PTP acts as project manager, to liaise with the client to agree the project specification, the timescale, the fee and the terms of engagement; -To keep the Directors informed of all financial implications and risks associated with all commissions; -On those projects for which the PTP acts as project manager, to liaise with the client to promptly report any issue arising during the undertaking of the project that has implications either to the brief or the timescale. Such implications are to be reported as variations and budget alterations are to be agreed with the client; -On those projects for which the PTP acts as project manager, to ensure that the project is undertaken to the specified budget and that all project-related fees and disbursements are accurately recorded and expediently recovered; -To ensure that the company's Quality Assurance procedures are adhered to on each and every commission. -To have a full understanding of all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering and transportation planning; -To keep abreast of the latest developments with respect to all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering and transportation planning; -To have a full understanding of all local and national planning policies and guidelines insofar as they relate to transportation and development; -To have a full understanding of, ensure compliance with and assist in the upkeep and refinement of the company's Health & Safety Policy; -To have a full understanding of, ensure compliance with and assist in the upkeep and refinement of the company's Quality Assurance system; -To pro-actively mentor and assist in the professional development of more junior staff; -To be aware of marketing activities and assist in the identification of future opportunities to enhance and expand the profile of the company; -To report to and attend monthly management meetings.
