As the Legal Executive you will provide legal expertise regarding contract negotiation, drafting and management as well as day to day support of the legal team. The successful candidate will have excellent writing and presentation skills, and the ability to analyse and interpret complex information and then present this to a range of stakeholders. Day to Day Responsibilities (summary) Provision of legal advice and assurance on all legal aspects of IET group charitable and commercial activity, including: Supporting commercial best practice, including negotiating, drafting and reviewing commercial contracts Supporting risk management by appropriate mitigation of legal risk. Supporting commercial colleagues in the use and completion of the IET’s standard form agreements Identifying and resolving legal issues in respect of proposed projects and transactions; supporting minimisation of exposure and costs in respect of litigations and claims Commissioning and managing external legal advice when required Input into the development of policies and procedures to promote sound contract management and procurement. Overseeing and maintaining a database of contracts Assisting in the management of the IET’s member disciplinary process Liaising with the IET’s Data Protection Officer regarding compliance with data protection legislation; liaising with the IET’s finance team regarding financial compliance. Assisting with the IET’s compliance regime by inputting into relevant policies to comply with legislation and governance requirements. Key Skills Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships across professional and organisational boundaries; encourage participation and knowledge sharing with other stakeholders. Strong commitment to professionalism, self-motivated and with the ability to work with minimum supervision. Excellent writing and presentation skills. The ability to write and present concise high impact, persuasive and coherent reports, briefings and responses to correspondence, often to a non-specialist audience. Ability to analyse and interpret complex information and to present results and advice clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders. Commercial awareness. Commitment to CPD demonstrated by appropriate professional registration and/or membership of an appropriate institution. Ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders Qualified in English Law with post qualification experience in a commercial role Experience of working across a multi-faceted, multi-stakeholder organisation. Experience of commercial and legal processes beyond UK, preferably in one or more of China (including Hong Kong), India and the USA. Knowledge of Charity Law The IET is an equal opportunity employer.
