The Opportunity Our client’s programme works with mobile money providers and the wider financial industry to accelerate the availability of mobile financial services that provide safety, security and convenience to the financially excluded. Through its work, our clients mobile money team has supported the development of an industry that now reaches over 100 million active users globally; providing much-needed financial services to those who were previously excluded from or underserved by the formal financial sector. In order to promote the future scale of the mobile money industry, and thereby further deepen financial inclusion and digital financial activity among the world’s poor, they have recently launched their Inclusive Tech Lab. This virtual Lab will provide a central workshop with dedicated technical staff and assets, in which they, mobile money operators, technology providers, specialized payments companies and other industry stakeholders can work together to develop and trial solutions for the mobile money industry’s biggest challenges and opportunities. “The mission of the Inclusive Tech Lab is to support the industry with inclusive innovations, taking a hands-on approach to research, test and develop the inclusive technologies of the future. With our team of dedicated ‘technopreneurs’, we will work on a range of areas that drive inclusion, including the openness and interoperability of payment systems, service accessibility for women and vulnerable user groups, digital identities for unregistered people, and more. The Software Innovation Engineer takes a hands-on approach to develop, and test technical solutions, together with our wider technical and business team and in collaboration with external industry stakeholders. This role is a pretty unique opportunity to develop and code innovative technologies and deliver successful proof of concepts through developer portals, test platforms, simulators and apps. – Ultimately with the aim to increase financial and digital inclusion of the world’s poorest people” The Role Our client is seeking a passionate and driven professional to join the Inclusive Tech Lab as a Software Innovation Engineer. The successful candidate will: Develop, code, and test technological innovations in financial and digital services for the poor, e.g. in mobile money, interoperability of payment systems, merchant payments, digital identities and eKYC, and more Work with internal technical development and business teams as well as external partners on technical innovation projects to deliver high-quality software MVPs. Develop sandboxes and cloud test environments for the Lab’s technical assets - support and run hosted test environments - software tests within our sandbox environments Monitor and improve sandboxes and cloud test environments, seeking for improvements from stakeholders and the industry Contribute to develop and code highly innovative technical projects and work closely with supplier’s code and open source project from the industry Interact with and advise external technical stakeholders, including company members and other industry players participating in project collaborations, as well as suppliers Monitor and research technological trends in financial and digital inclusion, and collaborate with other team members to produce and publish insights for the industry, such as webinars, papers, blog posts Support the Technology Lead Inclusive Fintech in the delivery of technical innovation projects Candidate Energetic team player, with creative mindset, and hands-on and can-do mentality Genuine interest in the social benefits that are presented by the use of mobile technology to address financial and digital inclusion of the poor Experience gained in an innovative digital tech environment, e.g. start-up in mobile and/or payments services, challenger bank, telecom operator, technical consultancy, academic institution, or other Technical background in technologies relating to financial services, mobile money, payments, mobile apps, digital identity management, and/or other area relevant for inclusive fintech Demonstrable technical experience in software development, experimentation, and delivering MVPs and prototypes Solid technical knowledge: Programming logic and knowledge in 2 languages such as Java, JavaScript, PHP or Python; Framework experience in Node.JS, Drupal, spring-boot or apache-tomcat; Database experience, desirable knowledge in MySQL Desirable knowledge in OpenAPI (Swagger), Postman, SwaggerHub, Docker, Maven, CircleCI, Git, GitFlow, Cloud Environments (AWS, Azure, others) Demonstrable ability to collaborate in a team of developers and technical specialists Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express complex technologies in plain language Ability to positively influence and inspire others, and build constructive working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, technical suppliers, and technical industry partners Affinity with intercultural working relations; work experience in Africa and/or Asia desirable but not strictly required A BSc or MSc degree in Computer & Information Sciences, Physics, Engineering or similar technical field Fluency in English; French, major African, and/or Asian language skills are desirable but not required Willingness and ability to travel (up to 15% of time) This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89939738
