Working from their state-of-the-art RD facility you will join a team of technical experts that prides itself on delivering top quality technical results for clients. We require a Hardware Contract Engineer to accelerate the development of this product by taking responsibility for the design and test of a new optical board. The Hardware Engineer will design the schematics for a new optical board that satisfies both the technical and schedule requirements of the project. This schematic shall contain the latest generation of pluggable optical module technology (400/200/50 Gbps), local power supplies and filtering, and board to board connectors. Work in collaboration with the Product Designer to identify the optimum position of the front panel optical modules from a mechanical and thermal perspective. Work in collaboration with the Hardware Engineers to ensure that the optical board shall interface with other boards present in the instrument. Support an external PCB Designer during the layout of the optical board. This will initially involve producing the documentation required for the PCB Designer to layout the board. Then review the PCB layout and provide guidance to ensure that the optical board shall work as expected. Produce the documentation that is required to fabricate the PCB and assemble the PCA at the Contract Electronic Manufacturer. The turn on, debug and verification of the optical board prototypes. Work in collaboration with the mixed discipline team during the test and integration of the optical board in the instrument.
