Overview

JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking skilled and experienced children and families practitioners to work in a busy independent social work team, providing support for children and families, and to support social work assessments. The work we offer is on a self employed basis but may in time lead to a contract of employment, subject to performance. The working hours could vary from a few hours a day up to 24 hours depending on the needs of the family you are working with. It may sometimes be necessary for overnight in the homes of families that are subject to social care intervention. Safeguarding children is at the heart of all the work we do. Hours per Week: All work is conducted on a case-by-case basis, with hours agreed prior to commencement. Status: Self employed Main Purpose of the Job: To provide support to children and families. On occasions to assist the company’s Independent Social Workers (ISWs) to carry out homebased 24/7 parenting assessments. Key Relationships: CF Social Work Managing Director CF Social Work Team Main Activities and Responsibilities: To provide social work-related services and support to children and families. On occasions to assist Independent Social Workers to carry out assessments of children and their parents, including where assessments assist the Court in making decisions about To provide written reports for each session of work completed. Current Objectives for the Job: To develop and maintain a high standard of service to CF Social Work service users To ensure that all practice contributions are aimed at meeting good outcomes for children. To help develop and maintain effective working relationships with service users, partneragencies and colleagues in the public and private sectors. To contribute to team development and a shared commitment to high-quality service delivery. To participate in appropriate training for the role. Education & Qualifications Essential Relevant qualifications in the field of health and social care Desirable Degree or working towards a social work or child care related field. Specialist Knowledge & Skills Essential · Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to engage with children and their parents Ability to encourage good parenting by modelling and giving advice Sound knowledge of what good enough parenting looks like so as to support parents in meeting their children’s needs. Good knowledge and understanding of children’s development, play and learning. Sound knowledge of safeguarding processes and procedures. Sensitivity to disability, gender and ethnicity issues. Ability to prioritise and organise workload to meet competing deadlines. Ability to work under pressure. Desirable · Experience of assessment and/or observation of the development needs of children. · Experience working with a range of professionals / organisations to meet the needs of children and families. · Experience of safeguarding. · Experience of working with parents who may have mental health, learning and physical disabilities or other problems. · Able to work with parents/carers. · Proven ability to sensitively advise and support parents/carers on a range of topics relating to children’s development, learning and behaviour. · Working knowledge of social work concepts. Understanding of developmental attachment Interpersonal & Communication Skills Essential · Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to make non- judgemental observations of children and families · Ability to record information clearly and concisely. Ability to support people who are experiencing adverse circumstances Ability to meet reporting deadlines Relevant Experience Essential · 3 years experience of working within the field of health and/or social care Experience of working with children, young people and families in a professional setting. · Experience of working with professionals from other related disciplines.
