Specialty / Ward Doctor

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Specialty / Ward Doctor to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke. This role will be working 40 hours per week between Monday to Friday with an on-call requirement which includes 1 on call per week plus 1 weekend in every 6. Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke provides an emergency admissions service for men and a pathway for women from low secure to rehabilitation including a specialist service for personality disorder. The Opportunity As a Specialty / Ward Doctor you will have clinical responsibility inpatients under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist on one of our wards at Cygnet Kewstoke. You will work as part of a close-knit and caring team to include; Allied Health Professionals, Psychology, Management, Nursing and Support Staff. In this role, you will carry out mental state examination of newly admitted patients along with assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. The women on this unit women may have a range of mental health difficulties, including personality disorder or mild eating disorders. Each patient must be interviewed and re-assessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan. You will also prescribe and review medication under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. Participation in weekly Ward Rounds and in other multidisciplinary meetings, including Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA’s), Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT’s) and Section 117 meetings, ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned. An active role in contributing to treatment plans and therapeutic programmes, along with regular communication with ward staff to include morning handover meetings. You will have Full GMC registration and an MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity The ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgment / experience in making clinical decision and managing risk and knows when to seek help Excellent verbal / written communication skills along with the ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development) The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team Desirable: Section 12 Desirable: Royal College of Psychiatrists membership (MRCPsych) or equivalent Why Cygnet? We’ll offer you… Salary up to £85,000 this includes 1 on call per week plus 1 weekend in every 6. Any calls outs are paid at £100 per call out. You can also do extra on calls which are paid at between £200 - £350 per shift.
