Role: Network Support Officer Location: Coventry Salary: £26,000 - £30,000 A large organisation based in Coventry are looking for a Network Support Officer to join their Network and Telecommunication team. You will be providing equipment installation and technical support as part of a team that manages the organisations Data Networks. You'll be managing the day-to-day running of the network systems such as DHCP, DNS, VPN access and internet connectivity as well as the strategic development of services and improving the experience of users. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has a sound technical background in data networking along with a proven record with a customer-focused approach to service delivery. RESPONSIBILITIES Pro-active monitoring of the routed Data Networks to detect failures and performance issues; this will include the identification of potential areas of risk in order to prevent faults from arising Employing software tools to ensure the effective management of the Data Networks-including protection from computer security threats Site Surveys and installations of wireless networking Access Points and Power over Ethernet installations Initiating corrective action to resolve problems with the Data Networks, including the replacement of faulty equipment with new hardware, and migration of users to the routed sub-net to minimise the impact of network problems Installation and commissioning of network hardware and software to cope with expansion and as part of new projects Responding to service request calls channelled through the IT Services Service Desk, either remotely or by site visits, and liaising with customers to ensure timely and satisfactory resolution Ensuring that installation of new active equipment are appropriately documented Maintenance and diagnostics of the passive and active equipment Ensuring that stock levels of Optical Fibre and SX/LX Gbic modules are at a satisfactory level Comparing products from various suppliers and making a recommendation to the Network & Telecoms Service Owner based upon price, availability, specification etc Person Specification Experience of IT data networking in support of a large and complex data network Knowledge of Ethernet (including Fast and Gigabit) data networks Knowledge of Seven Layer OSI Networking Model and TCP/IP network protocol Knowledge of wireless networking. Excellent communication skills, the ability to communicate with people at all levels and a customer-focused approach to service delivery. Self-motivation, the ability to work under pressure and to work effectively as part of a team.
