Bioinformatician - research centre, London. Data analysis, machine learning, R, Python, cancer, proteomics NGS Your new company This leading research centre, based in London, has a world-class reputation for innovative research. They have recently received significant funding to grow their team, and are looking to add several bioinformaticians to a high-performing group focusing on bioinformatics, data science and statistics supporting research on new treatments. They are recruiting people at both Bioinformatician and Senior Bioinformatician level to work on drug discovery projects. Your new role You'll be part of a team bringing innovative data science and bioinformatics approaches to large biological data sets to help draw insights and aid research on cutting-edge projects. You will be carrying out a mix of statistical analysis and programming responsibilities, but the primary focus will be on the analysis of protein / proteomic data to help develop new therapies and aid understanding of disease. This will come from a number of sources, including mass spec. Responsibilities will include (but aren't limited to): Analysing and interpreting NGS / sequencing / proteomic data (eg RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, TMT, SILAC data etc) Developing and optimising bioinformatics pipelines and tools Liaising with researchers on aspects such as experimental design and future work Leading bioinformatics projects Coding / scripting in languages such as R, Python, Perl, etc Helping develop and apply novel computational & statistical methods to biological problems Providing analysis and insight on research data to drive forward drug discovery projects What you'll need to succeed As well as excellent communication skills, and great problem solving ability, candidates must have: Strong scripting skills, ideally with Python, but other languages such as Perl or Bash are also acceptable; Experience with statistical software, eg R or Matlab; A strong background in working with NGS or proteomic data (preferably human / clinical samples); Very good data analysis skills; At least an MSc (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, statistics, biology, computer science, or a similar discipline, although higher level degrees (ie PhD) are significantly preferred; Good communication skills, ideally gained from working with multi-disciplinary teams or researchers in multiple locations. Candidates with experience of the following are preferred (although these are not essential): Bioinformatics tool and/or pipeline / workflow development or optimisation; Machine Learning or Deep Learning approaches, eg Random Forest, SVM, regression, clustering, knowledge of Keras, scikit-learn or similar A track record of working on cancer related projects What you'll get in return A great opportunity to further develop your career, work on projects that will have a real effect on patients, and work on cutting-edge projects with world-class colleagues.
