Role: Network Services Specialist Location: Coventry Salary: £41,000 - £49,500 A large organisation based in Coventry are looking for a Network Services Specialist to join their Network and Telecommunication team. Currently the business is embarking on a large-scale upgrade project for its data network and systems. By joining the team, you will have a chance to work with some of the exciting new technology and be part of developing and delivering the next generation of software-defined networking within the university's environment. We are looking for an individual who has a sound technical background in data networking along with a proven record with a customer-focused approach to service delivery. As a senior member of the team, you will be able to have an influence on the service delivery and strategic development of the services provided by the Network and Telecoms team. Job Description You will work as a senior member of a team responsible for developing, building, maintaining and delivering new and enhanced network (voice and data) services to underpin the delivery of IT services. In particular, you will be involved in the design and implementation of major projects to upgrade the networking infrastructure and the main business network. You will provide third line specialist technical support in respect of incident and problem management for network services, on the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Voice over IP telephony (VoIP). Responsibilities: Developing, in conjunction with the Head of Service, proposals for new and enhanced networked services (voice and data) to improve facilities for staff. Designing and documenting supported services in accordance with established business standards. Installing, testing and commissioning equipment to provide additional network services in newly built and/or re-cabled areas, or to cope with routine expansion. Preparing implementation plans and following change management procedures. Deputising for the Service Owner to manage the routine operation of the Network and Telecommunications team and network services. Advising other members of ITS on how best to exploit the network and voice infrastructure in the delivery of IT services. Contributing to strategy planning and advising the Head of Service in areas such as capacity planning and future service improvements. Person Specification Significant experience gained within a complex IT Service Detailed knowledge of modern network switching, routing protocols and technologies and applying them to best achieve desired outcomes The ability to work under pressure and priorities/plan workload for yourself and the team A logical "engineering" approach to fault resolution - with strong analytical and problem-solving skills A good practical Knowledge across all layers of the ISO model as well as with Fast and Gigabit Ethernet, TCP/IP and an understanding of their use by higher level systems for service delivery Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels Detailed knowledge of wired and wireless networking equipment and of passive cabling systems, both copper and fibre (multimode and single mode), and the limitations of each A HNC/HND or first degree in a technical or engineering discipline Awareness of current best practice, including the ITIL IT Service Management Framework, and a customer-focused approach to service delivery The ability to and experience of design, develop, document and deploy complex IT network services A good working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, VPN, Policy Management, modern network automation and coding If you are looking to be part of a friendly, energetic company then please click the 'apply now' function.
