Overview

Purpose Reporting to the Data Strategy & Governance Lead, you will work with all parts of the business driving positive change through data and developing it to become a strategic business asset. The role will support all technology aspects of data, from technology research, data ingestion, governance, data architecture, integration and deriving value from Big Data/ AI. You will drive adoption of Linklaters’ data technologies, ensure they are configured appropriately, and that Linklaters is deriving the maximum value from its technology investment to deliver its data strategy. Key Dimensions You will work with a variety of technology solutions including data catalogs, data governance tools, and a variety of database types containing both, structured and unstructured data. You will be the key point of contact for the data team with IT colleagues and external software partners and will manage small to medium scale projects as well as advise on data solutions Key responsibilities 1. Data Governance technology owner Work with internal IT resources and external software suppliers to integrate new tools into the Linklaters technology estate, through PoC phase and through implementation. Optimise the use of the technology to derive greater insight into the quality of Linklaters data. Devise data profiling processes to provide snapshots of core data sources. Configure data governance dashboards to highlight exceptions to rules and progress of data integrity projects Manage lineage representations within the tool to support impact analysis of data and technology change Act as SME for governance tooling. 2. Datamart Enhancement project owner Work with internal IT resources and external software suppliers to plan and develop the capability of a Linklaters data-warehouse/lake Working with the Data Architect, agree an appropriate data model that enables agile data discovery that is balanced with the privacy and confidentiality requirements of clients. Work with Business Intelligence resources to enable further insights to be developed as the data-warehouse/lake grows. Working with Architecture, establish and implement a process for integrating external data into the data-warehouse/lake to maximise client and sector profiles. 3. Big Data Capabilities Working with Linklaters existing AI/Big Data resources (RAVN/Kira) drive ad hoc data discovery projects to enhance insight or improve work efficiency. Continually research the big data/AI marketplace to establish value and opportunity for Linklaters from new technologies and resources. Recommend ways to turn ad hoc projects into repeatable processes. Work with IT and external consultants to develop Linklater’s AI capabilities. 4. Technology Liaison Act as the day-to-day business owner of data-owned projects, liaising with development, architectural and project resource. Liaise with third-party technology suppliers to ensure requirements are understood and completed to specification. Undertake ad hoc data analyses to support the data aspects of Linklaters projects, e.g. data migration and integration projects Ensure testing is carried out in a methodical and thorough way that covers both business and technical requirements. 5. Small-scale project management Follow a structured agile process to gather and confirm requirements for data-led activities and projects. Manage BAU backlogs for all data technologies Create appropriate user and technical documentation to support Linklaters’ data technologies. Results-focussed, problem-solver Education / Qualification Data qualification or of degree-calibre B2B or professional services environment (desirable) Languages English speaker Practical experience Previous experience of managing and developing data technologies, specifically SQL Server databases Previous experience of working with unstructured data, or NoSQL databases Demonstrable competence with query languages e.g. SQL or Cypher, within a business setting. Experience of embedding data governance frameworks within solutions Understanding of Tableau environments or other similar data visualisation tools Previous experience of architecting data solutions, or influencing data architecture in developing strategic solutions. Previous experience of delivering systems integrations and/or data migrations Good communication & presentation skills Familiarity with data governance principles and practice Track record of delivery, familiar with project management frameworks and working with and defining requirements Previous experience of working with external data service providers.
