Overview

Emergency Response Volunteer Could you help us support people during an emergency? Location: Londonderry Commitment: "2 x 12 hour shifts per month1 x 5 hour shift at 2 SVPRS Welcome Centres per year80% of training across the year" Age: 18 years "Volunteers must be able to reach the Emergency Response Vehicle within 30 minutes without relying on public transport or a taxi. The vehicle is kept at British Red Cross office, 5 Donnybrewer Road, Eglinton, Campsey, Derry-Londonderry BT47 3PD Volunteers must hold a full driving license" In 2020 the British Red Cross turns 150. It is thanks to all our supporters and volunteers that we have been able to help people during emergencies since 1870. Our volunteers have been providing emotional and practical support to those affected during emergencies such as Aberfan, the London 7/7 bombings and more recently the Manchester Arena bombings and Grenfell fire. The Red Cross doesn't only respond to large-scale emergencies, we respond to an emergency on average every four hours ranging from house fires and floods to power cuts and water shortages. Help us continue our story by applying to volunteer with us today. What would I be doing? You will be helping people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. Every individual affected by an emergency will need different support from us to help them recover, below are some examples of what you might support with: Helping communities prepare for extreme weather events such as flooding or snow storms Providing practical support such as distributing clothing or food after flooding Providing emotional support to people who have been evacuated due to a fire If this is something that you feel you could support with, please apply today.
