Magic Life is leading the way in supported living accommodation in North London Why should I apply for the role of Support Worker with this company? You don’t need any special qualifications to make a massive difference in someone’s life. Some of our best support workers had very little qualifications prior to coming to this field. There is one thing they all have though, and that is passion. Passion for life, passion for making a difference. One of the most rewarding things about being a support worker is seeing your efforts making an impact on someone’s life for the better. Example: A new member of staff come from an academic background and worked in the corporate world. He became disillusioned with the cutthroat world of selling and the constant demands for ever-increasing targets to be met. Although the pay was ok, the pressure was constant and he felt a lack of human empathy. Questioning his life goals he felt a change was needed to balance himself and a need to make a difference. He joined Magic Life UK with no social care qualifications but had a lot of life skills. It’s was clear from the start he had that special touch with people. Connecting with them on a human level. Respecting their place in society and listening to their needs. His calmness and ability to build confidence has seen him make a real difference in the lives of people he works with and in his own life. What does the role of Support Worker involve? Support Workers In Learning Disability If you are a support worker working with people who have learning disabilities, you may be working with just one individual or a group of individuals living together in a supported environment. You will work on building a relationship with the individual(s) whilst you support them with living their lives. Promoting independence and wellbeing in a person with learning disabilities is the biggest part of being a support worker. The individual care plan will very much depend on the service user and their capabilities, but as a support worker, you will ensure they are safe whilst still getting the most satisfaction from their activities. Some people undertake volunteer work during the days, others live almost independently by shopping, cooking and cleaning for themselves. In your capacity as a support worker you can offer your opinion and advice about any activity or issue, but ultimately the final decision of the person you are supporting must be respected. For example, you could advise about healthy food choices when assisting an individual with making their shopping list, but it is their choice if they actually buy what’s on the list when they get to the supermarket. You could be involved in assisting them with any type of physical activity such as helping them exercise, or with recreational activities such as shopping, playing games, or cooking and cleaning in their home. Some service users may be able to live independently and will only need support when going out. Others may need assistance in their own homes to undertake daily tasks, but whatever the needs of the individual, you will support them at a level that is appropriate for their needs. What makes the perfect Support Worker? Make A Change Are you currently studying or looking to gain a qualification in mental health? Are you passionate about working with clients recovering from drug addiction? Are you dedicated to making a change to the lives of those who have had traumatic pasts? If this is you, then we would love to hear from you. Magic Life is looking for people to work within our mental health supported living homes. We offer great rates of pay, flexible working hours and a career progression within mental health just to mention a few of the benefits, so apply today to make a change.
