Principal Environment & Social Value Manager Central London 6 Month Contract Daily Rate £710 In Scope of IR35 The Role Lead the design and implementation of the Region or Major Programme environmental and social value strategy that deliver improvements in environmental and social value management and the approach to sustainability at all phases of the project lifecycle, Key Accountabilities Deliver expert advice on environmental and social value management, and the wider sustainable development agenda including the formation of a Region or Major Programme strategy to be implemented through line management and supply chain. Design and implement the strategy for environmental and social value management arrangements the Region or Major Programme, which includes arrangements to identify and comply with applicable environmental and sustainability-focused legislation, as well as recording baseline and measuring improvement. Work with the Head of Profession to lead the development and specification for environment and social value competence, including provision of necessary training for project delivery staff within the Region or Major Programme Work with technical leads in Centres of Expertise in order to align Region/Major Programme activities with Network Rail’s central strategies and policies for environmental and social value management. Lead the environment and social value management activities of the Region or Major Programme maintaining alignment and consistency with activities managed by those holding similar accountabilities within wider Functional Teams. Develop and maintain an environment and social value focus within the creation of controls around joint ventures and frameworks across the Region or Major Programme, to include recording baseline and measuring improvement. Develop and maintain strong relationships with contracting organisations and be the environment and social value focal point for the Region or Major Programme’s contractors by providing advice, attending contractor site visits and leading periodic meetings with all regional contracting organisations to share and transmit best practice and lessons learnt. Develop, maintain and monitor, either in person or through their line where appropriate Region or Major Programme Environment and Social Value Key Performance Indicators for line managers and contractors. Coach, advise and challenge Region or Major Project team members and suppliers to engage with this agenda and develop effective environmental and social value plans, that comply with legislation and deliver improvements as set out in the Region or Major Programme’s environmental and social value strategy. Lead the development of documentation and other media to maximise the effectiveness of environmental and social value activity, control and measurement, including creation, communication and cascade appropriately to key stakeholders and monitoring compliance. Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications Essential Full and Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IEMA or similar) or working towards Chartership with expectation of achieving this within a time frame agreed on appointment Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on environment and/or sustainability management, or equivalent experience In-depth understanding of environmental legal requirements and experience in ensuring compliance obtained within a similar role and/or in-depth understanding of the Public Services (Social Value) Act, the Modern Slavery Act and other legislation related to social responsibility Comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of environmental and/or social value disciplines gained through practical experience Demonstrable experience in designing and embedding an environment and/or social value strategy Excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills, with a specific emphasis on influencing the views of peers, more senior colleagues and other stakeholders Ability to evidence application of design for social value and environmental management Demonstrable experience of leading a team and/or function Desirable Experience of managing an ISO 14001compliant environmental management system Experience of managing employment and skills programmes in a construction or engineering environment Working knowledge of project management Understanding of the project management lifecycle within the railway industry, or a similar operating environment.
