Job Title :- Engine Test Technician Location :- Bedfordshire Type : Permanent, Contract Short Term / Long Term available Salary :- Negotiable depending on experience Ref PT TEC 6 Job Summary Our Client provides vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries. It is independent and impartial in everything it does. It has a range of test facilities for components and full vehicles. These include varied indoor and outdoor test tracks in the UK and Northern Finland, engine dynamometers, environmental chambers, crash laboratories and advanced emissions chassis dynamometers. We have a vacancy for a Senior Engine Test Technician at our clients site. The successful jobholder will be responsible for the pre-rigging of engines to pallets, including fabricating brackets, exhaust systems and fitting instrumentation. The Senior Technician will also carry out various controlled testing on various powertrain units and development work Qualifications • City and Guild and / or Full Apprenticeship / HND in Automotive or Engineering Skills • Fabrication skills • Understanding of complex engines, testing techniques and associated equipment and tools • Skilled in the build and modification of engine harnesses • A good knowledge in the use of engine test cell equipment including emissions measurement, combustion analysis and calibration tools • Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics • Good general IT skills especially MS Excel • Ability to work with minimum supervision and instruction • Ability to use technical knowledge to contribute to the testing process • Willing to take responsibility for own and, when applicable, others work Experience • Must have a sound automotive background preferably in a testing environment • Instrumentation experience (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.) • Prototype engine strip/build • Good understanding of gasoline and diesel engine operation Role Responsibilities • Ensure all Health and Safety and quality procedures have been adhered to • Pre-rigging of engines to pallets including fabricating brackets, exhaust systems, fitting instrumentation • Installation of rigged engines into test cells and getting them up and running • Service and repair all types of engines • Ensure agreed deadlines are met and liaise with operations to ensure targets are met • To liaise with supporting staff, Engineers, Supervisors and customers on a technical level • Install and set up instrumentation as required from engineering • Carry out various controlled testing on various powertrain units and development work • Develop initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency • Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations • To report, review and provide authorisation of results • Develop best working practises and provide training to others • Act in accordance with the behaviours for the client at all times Personal Behaviors • Time management and organisation • Professional attitude under pressure and good communication skills. • Excellent attention to detail • Able to follow written instructions/ work requests • Good understanding of H&S practices Other • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends • Full UK driving licence • Willing to undergo a Basic Disclosure (DBS) check Other information: Working Environment: Workshop/Lab/Track Travel Required: Travel as required within the UK and mainland Europe This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89902812
