Overview
We are recruiting on behalf of one of Devon’s most successful manufacturing businesses. Operating from 13 locations across the globe, we have a newly created role for an innovative engineer, with experienced in an R & D function. We welcome applications from degree qualified individuals with a degree in Engineering of Physics. This role sees the appointed candidate joining a leading photonics technology company, which manufactures optical components and systems. It provides photonics solutions for industrial, aerospace and defence, life sciences and scientific research applications. This is an opportunity to work with some of the most advanced technology, gaining a wealth of exposure to tasks not found in your typical R & D Role. This position is based in the rapidly growing Centre of Excellence. The role will concentrate on managing the R&D project portfolio on novel fiber-optic components and systems. You will coordinate project-based R&D and execute the business plan on aero & space photonics. You will also take over the generation and coordination of R&D proposals exploiting customer and government funding opportunities. You will be part of a vibrant multidisciplinary team of engineers developing cutting-edge and enabling products ranging from space and aerospace to biomedical imaging and LIDAR. Key Activities •Manage all aspects of R&D project execution, including schedule, stakeholder interaction, periodic team meetings and cost control •Interface with other disciplines to communicate assigned tasks, required scope, objectives and timescales and ensure milestones are met on time and under budget •Run project team meetings and scrums on running projects to optimally and efficiently allocate resources to tasks. •Coordinate project progression with outside stakeholders such as suppliers, sub-contractors and test-houses •Ensure reviewing, checking and approving of drawings, reports, deliverables and schedules occurs as per the quality standards of the facility and/or contract •Submission of project or contract deliverables. •Actively pursue external funding to secure co-funding of higher-risk / higher-return projects focusing on disruptive new technology development •Deliver technical and management reviews and produce reports resulting from technical activities, executing technical projects on time and under budget. •Manage technical, administrative and financial aspects of R&D proposals through a coordinator or partner/sub-contractor role. •Develop strong working links with technical and business experts across G&H. Essential • Degree in Engineering or Physics • Technical background in photonics • At least 3 years of relevant industrial experience in running R&D projects from design through transfer to production • Management of development projects with total contract value of >£2m • Track record in preparing and submitting R&D proposals for securing funding through EU, Innovate UK, ATI or DSTL calls • Strong written communication skills especially technical writing • Able to strongly engage stakeholders technically and collaboratively.
