Optical Assistant (Field Based) Location: Bishops Stortford Duration: Permanent Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Pay: £18,000 - 19,000 DOE Benefits: Company car with annual fuel allowance performance related bonuses Our healthcare client is extremely passionate about going above and beyond for their patients and contribute towards helping make a positive difference to their patient’s lives. They are currently seeking an experienced Optical Assistant to join their team in on a Permanent basis. Main Duties Work closely with the Optometrist on test days Ensure the clinic is running smoothly and patients are pre-screened and ready to be seen by the Optometrist Support patients in choosing the most suitable and cost-effective resolution for their eyecare Take accurate dispensing measurements, including PD’s, Lens & Frame Size and length to bend Follow the standard operating procedures on 'Running a Clinic’ & 'Deliveries' Ensure clinics are equipped with equipment and paperwork whilst completing patient packs correctly in line with business standards Visit residential care homes throughout the CM22 region in order to deliver sight tests and fitting of spectacles to residents Complete home requests for patients including repairs or adjustments Under the supervision of Optometrist, carry out dilation of patients Dispose of any clinical waste as per Company guidelines Use manual contact tonometer to take accurate intra ocular pressure readings of the patient’s eyes Ensure all patient record cards and lifestyle questionnaires are fully completed with accurate information Gather accurate patient details whilst treating all patients with respect and dignity Use the manual focimeter to make accurate measurements of their previous glasses Communicate with and work closely with the office and management team Process any private payments with the patients next of kin Actively support and participate in weekly team meetings Align with the company’s health & safety policy and practices, working towards their organisational values Skills Required: Experienced working as an Optical Assistant Full clean UK driving licence Ability to transpose and prescribe prisms Experience pre-testing patients Recent experience dispensing single vision, varifocal and bifocal lenses within an optical environment Experienced fitting and adjusting frames Clear communication skills - both written and verbally A genuine desire to work within the optical industry, with an interest in spectacles A natural ability to make people happy - you will go above and above for patients to they receive the great quality eyecare Please note: This role will involve visiting elderly or housebound patients / visiting care homes. Therefore, a full clean driving licence must be held in order to be considered. Patients may have various healthcare conditions, including challenging behaviour.
