Overview

Are you an IT Graduate looking for a new exciting position? We are working with our Plymouth based client who are looking for an IT Technician who specialises in the Linux Operating systems to join their busy and successful company. You will be responsible for providing responsive, professional and high quality 2nd line technical IT support and customer service by telephone, email and face to face. You will provide excellent technical support for incidents and fulfilment of service / development requests following defined processes and procedures ensuring that quality and consistency is delivered effectively. The position will require you to be responsible for ensuring any incidents and requests are logged, analysed and prioritised based on urgency and impact and then actioned in priority order. Main Tasks - • Support the Manager in ensuring the stability, operation and quality of the IT systems infrastructures • Perform 2nd line fixes where possible, ensuring minimum impact to users wherever possible • Manage user expectations by updating them on the status of their reported incident/request • Escalate requests & incidents as appropriate to the relevant 3rd/4th line teams to ensure a prompt resolution • Ensure targets & KPIs for quality, call handling & resolution time etc, are achieved • Ensure information security protocols are adhered to & any breaches are reported to the Cyber Security team • Participate in the Out of Hours support rota for IT Emergencies/System Alerts Attributes Required for this job - • A positive attitude & a willingness to embrace change is essential • A resilient self-starter who is able to multi-task, work autonomously & in a team • Logical & analytical, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting • Good planning & organisational skills, results-oriented, proactive, service & improvement focused • Ability to manage own time, work under pressure, successfully prioritise & meet deadlines • High attention to detail & accuracy with a willingness to share information • Good interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills • Good customer service skills, & ability to remain calm, patient & polite in all situations • Ability to explain technical issues to technical & non-technical people alike • Ability to work in a rota pattern to cover the relevant hours of service operation • Open to giving & receiving constructive feedback • Commitment to developing own skills & knowledge Qualifications Required - Essential - IT Related Degree Good Working Knowledge & ability to support - Linux Operating Systems (RHEL, CentOS, Debian.) Relational Databases (SAP, SybaseASE, MSSQL) Web Architectures (Apache, Tomcat, Web services, ELK stack) Scripting (Bash, Perl, TSQL) Knowledge of relevant Data Protection standards, including GDPR & PCIDSS Full Driving Licence Desirable - Microsoft Operating systems (Windows Server 2008-2019) Monitoring and scheduling tools (Nagios, OpsView, Centreon, Jira) Networks and IT security Knowledge of DOC1 Application (Document Composition Software) This is a Monday - Friday 9am-5pm position with some flexibility required for taking part in an on call rota.
