Software Developer

Greyridge Software ,
Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £28,000 per annum

Overview

Greyridge is looking for a business software developer. Experience in appropriate technologies (see below) may help but is not essential for the right candidate. About Greyridge Greyridge is a small, successful software development house based in Newcastle, that works primarily in the development of custom web based business applications in the franchising and ISO certification areas. Greyridge is proud of being small and being a great place to work: we employ only very smart developers and we reward people well. People have the space and time to manage themselves in a meeting-free and democratic environment where your ideas and your intelligence define your voice. We also support flexible working - some of our development team work 4 day weeks and part working from home can also be supported. About The Applicant Greyridge is seeking one or two graduates (or those expecting to graduate in 2020), either in computing science or in a mathematical subject and with a good knowledge of programming languages. Candidates should have received, or be expecting, a first in the relevant degree or have a good reason why they don’t have or won’t get one. Since you will be working directly with clients on everything from the specification stage through development through to final sign off, ability to communicate clearly in a non-technical manner is a distinct bonus. About The Job Successful applicants will join a small team of talented developers working in two areas. The first area is the development of bespoke business applications, mainly for franchised businesses. All applications are web based and developed using a combination of HTML / CSS / Javascript (front end) and Oracle / PLSQL / Java (back end). Our biggest databases run to nearly 1TB in size and get up to 10 hits per second at peak times, so you’ll learn to write reliable and scalable code. The second area is the development of a SaaS product based on one of our existing systems but on a completely new development platform based around Kotlin, Java and Postgres and designed to run on AWS. As such, experience in any of the following technologies is a plus, but not an essential Database: SQL, PLSQL, Oracle or Postgres Web: HTML, CSS, Javascript (JQuery) Front End: Webpack, React, Vue.js, SCSS Back End: Kotlin / Java / Spring Infrastructure: AWS (particularly S3, EC2 and RDS) All of our staff are given the freedom and responsibility to manage their own projects from inception to completion. You won’t have a layer of management between you and the end users - instead you get to talk to the clients directly about their requirements, turn that into a specification and then develop the solution - working in an agile and iterative fashion with the client to ensure that they get what they want. The salary offered will depend on experience and will then be reviewed regularly. Applicants with a suitable CV will initially be invited for a supervised programming session at our Newcastle offices which cannot be revised for and which is not formally timed or scored.
