Technical Writer/Author - London - £36K-£44K depending on experience Are you bored of churning out the same old documentation day in day out and dream of taking ownership and being appreciated for what you do? Then this is exactly what you've been searching for My amazing software client in South London in currently looking to employ their first and pivotal Technical Author to their business. Not only will you be responsible for creating Quick Start-Guides, Help Guides and Troubleshooting Guides, but you'll also be the thought leader in what great documentation looks like, while creating tutorials and leading the content side of my clients training and certification programme Furthermore, you'll be at the forefront of the increased use of video in support content and have significant responsibility as a crucial part of the business. Now how many Technical Authors do you know who have such great and diverse set of responsibilities and at the same time are considered inherent to the business Responsibilities: Being responsible for creating and managing all content across the clients Help Center (Guides, Knowledgebase & Product News) Work on in-product content/copy to help the client's customers, where possible, use the software without recourse to external help. Keeping documentation up to date as the software changes and improves. Lead the content side of their training and certification programme. Lead the process to increase the use of video in their support content. To be a thought leader in what "good documentation" looks like and the value it creates. Engage with customers via the Community forum To work on other ad-hoc communications e.g. quick start guides, tutorials, troubleshooters etc. Assist developers with the developer/API documentation. Researching relevant information / data for deeper and more complex aspects of the software. Working with the development and support teams and feeding back to the Product team. Requirements Have 4 years' experience in writing technical documentation for a software product (ideally B2B). You need to have incredible writing skills and be able to show examples of your previous work. You must have a good grasp of IT concepts and its essential that you're able to explain technical concepts clearly and simply, as you'll be writing or editing content on a range of technical subjects e.g. Linux/Windows, APIs, SQL, JS/HTML/CSS so knowledge in these areas is highly desired Mastery of English language and outstanding writing abilities. You need to have a flexible and 'can-do' attitude and are keen to work in an exciting and growing team where you have a significant responsibility for a critical part of the business. You will also need strong time-management and prioritisation skills, balancing a range of demands on your time while keeping to deadlines and producing content on a regular basis.
