Overview

Job Title: Personal Assistant Location: Crawley Hourly rate: £9.00 Reference: VC6880 Hours/shifts: 7 hours per fortnight - during the day on either a Saturday or a Sunday (as mutually agreed). More weekend hours leading up to Christmas may also be available. Flexibility essential. Summary PA required for 6 year old boy with Autism. He is non-verbal, but communicates in his own way. He is very excitable, adventurous and enjoys having lots of fun. I am looking for a patient, caring and trustworthy person to take him out socially to access activities he likes, such as going to the playground or Swimming. He needs assistance with personal care, feeding snacks/drinks and constant supervision, ensuring his safety at all times. He can be strong-willed and forceful and will sometimes run off towards the road when he sees a Bus. The ability to appropriately react in this situation is essential. You should also be physically fit enough to safely stop him, pick him up and carry him as required. Experience of working with children with Special Needs would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided. Driver preferred, although again not essential. Other Requirements All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Personal Care: • Changing nappies • Dressing/undressing/changing clothes • Washing/drying if toileting accident occurs • Showering • Wiping/washing face and hands as needed • Applying sun cream as required • Ensuring child is appropriately clothed for weather, i.e. putting coat on/taking off as necessary • Helping with any other aspect of personal care as required and directed by the employer • Preparing and feeding drinks/snacks as required Social : Accompanying child to access social and leisure activities as required outside of the home, such as Swimming and the local Park/playground Pushing the child’s pushchair when out The above duties will involve driving the child in the PA’s own car where applicable to include lifting child in and out of car seat, folding pushchair and putting in and out of car Ensuring child’s safety at all times, administering First Aid as required Any other reasonable tasks as required Person specification The successful applicant will be: • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality • Reliable with good time-keeping • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills • Honest and cheerful • Creative • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
