Overview

As the Laboratory Supervisor of Product Testing for this very successful international consultancy, you will support the Operations Director through leading the day to day operations of the Product Testing team & Laboratory. With responsibility for prioritising resources against client requirements in order to deliver workflow and revenues against plan, the Laboratory Supervisor will be proactive, organised, detail focused, enjoy good communication skills (Written & Verbal) and be able to lead a team of upto 6 others. A hands-on as well as leadership role, the Laboratory Supervisor’s effectiveness is gauged through delivery of revenue against plan through the core lab team, the delivery of all client deliverables on time & in full, together with goals of zero significant non-compliances in annual accreditation quality audit, zero customer complaints & zero lost time through accidents. Other Responsibilities: The development of quotes, proposals and production of reports; ensuring scientific rigour in all work programme development and reporting. The prioritisation and coordination of projects across the team to complete programmes of work on time, on budget and in full. Undertaking routine and non-routine testing on budget and in full to meet the needs of external and internal clients. The efficient management of resources to deliver against KPIs. Delivering high quality and timely communications with clients and potential clients through opportunities, proposal development, work progress discussion and reporting. The coordination of project closure and invoicing, and input to month end reporting for the projects across the team. Supporting the Director in the identification, specification, ROI analysis, approval, supplier tendering, purchase and commissioning of new equipment. Significant Budget management. Health & Safety Skills & Attributes: A minimum of an HNC in a technical subject although degree qualification is preferred. Ideally experience of physical testing. Experience of mechanical or materials within Laboratory environments. Experience of designing, installing or testing Hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical systems. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential – especially in direct customer contact as the Laboratory Supervisor will need experience quoting and liaising on pricing and technical requirements. Experience of converting ill-defined client requests to credible work programmes is expected, together with the ability to translate lab data into meaningful commentary for clients. Team leadership experience preferred. Whether an experienced Laboratory Lead or Supervisor within a physical testing environment, or a Mechanical or Materials specialist with experience testing & problem solving in the Lab, this role could harness your expertise. You will need to demonstrate experience of production, testing or maintenance machinery but if you have the Laboratory testing skills and people leadership ability, this role could be the next step in your career. Knowledge of safe working and quality systems is expected and project management skills where you’ve led the delivery of multifaceted projects is high desirable too. Competent team leadership is essential ie. goal setting, working to objectives (targets and KPIs) and managing team and individual performance. The ability to use internal computer systems and MS Office tools is required.
