Overview
Scutt Farming is looking for a full-time and a part-time farm arable operator to join our arable team at Elm Tree Farm, Eastrington. We are a 2,000 acre farm growing a variety of arable crops including potatoes, wheat, barley, sugar beet, vining peas and oilseed rape. Most tasks carried out on the farm are undertaken using machinery of some sort and 99% of field work will involve using a tractor, combine or sprayer. We use John Deere tractors, a Claas combine and a new Bateman self propelled sprayer. Our largest enterprise is potatoes. We harvest the potato crop in late Autumn and put into store before then grading and selling them from December through to May. We handle the potatoes in boxes using forklifts and a telehandler. We use a grading line with an automatic bagging and weighing machine and a robotic palletizer to stack the bags onto pallets. We employ six full-time staff together with a number of casual staff at busy times of the year. The Location We operate from two main farmsteads one in the centre of Eastrington and another one mile away at Owsthorpe. Job Title Farm Arable Operator Job Description (i) You will be one of five full-time employees working under the guidance and supervision of Jonathan Scutt. (ii) Depending on your previous experience you will be trained to carry out a variety of field work operations such as for example: Operating a tractor with a variety of cultivation machinery such as ploughs, power harrows and Great Plains SLD. Operating a tractor and trailer for moving produce around the farm. Operating a tractor with corn drill. Operating a combine harvester. Operating a forklift to move, load and stack potato pallets and boxes. Operating a self propelled sprayer and fertilizer spreader. The Person Enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn. A good time keeper. Enjoy driving and be reasonably mechanically minded. Able to communicate with other employees and respond to people such as lorry drivers in a pleasant and confident manner. Have the ability to apply common sense to practical problems. Be able to participate effectively as a team member Have a reasonable maths knowledge. Hours of Work The standard working week is 39 hours from Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm and Friday 8am to 4pm with one hour for lunch from 12 noon to 1pm. Farming is seasonal and at certain times of the year you will be required to work overtime. These hours are paid at the higher appropriate 'overtime rate’. Salary This will be negotiable and dependent on experience. The rewards for the successful candidate will be fair and you will become part of a small friendly family business. Holiday You will be entitled to 20 days holiday per year and also all public bank holidays, of which there are currently 8.
