The role: We are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to be based in our Sutton, South London office. You’ll be working in a new global team of specialist developers within a fast paced highly dynamic group, committed to continuous improvement and adoption of best practices. The Principal Software Engineer is considered an internal subject matter expert providing engineering direction and guidance to senior management and cross-functional project teams. Acts as a lead engineer providing technical oversight and mentoring to other team members. Works on significant and unique issues that impact design or selling success and/or address future concepts, products, or technologies. Focused on short and long-term goals and objectives, work is considered critical to project success. Technical skills: ·Software development process expert in applicable methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall). ·Expertise in data modelling, design and manipulation, optimisation, best practices, tuning, design patterns and leading industry trend knowledge. Any microservices architecture would be beneficial. Serving both back end and front end development. ·Expertise in normalised/dimensional data modelling principles and their application to complex business needs. Expertise in industry technology language development trends. ·Expertise in test-driven development and maintenance including techniques for applying best practices for overall project benefit. ·Proven expert in partnering and leading internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs. ·Strong experience with various resource models such as Managed Services and/or Staff Augmentation. ·Strong knowledge in industry best practices in external resource development. ·Solid knowledge of architectural principles. ·Ability to partner and lead internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs. ·Strong proficiency with data manipulation language including optimisation techniques. ·Ability to design and work with complex data models. ·Expertise in development languages including but not limited to: JavaScript (React, Node), JSP, C#, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, container based development, UNIX, and .Net Core or any major Object Oriented Language. ·Strong organisation/project planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments, and strong delegation skills involving prioritising projects and managing projects of various size and complexity. ·Advanced problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making. ·Demonstrable proficiency in developing complex JavaScript applications - specifically experience developing Node.js applications and/or client-side applications using, React, React Native, JQuery or similar frameworks. Good knowledge of Cloud and container based development with AWS or Azure including Docker or Kubernetes. ·Understanding of database principles and generic SQL Good knowledge of web and mobile technologies, e.g. HTML5, CSS, iOS and Android. ·Experience of working with lean start up/agile development methodologies. Ideal if also have commercial experience of integrating REST / GraphQL based services in a TDD environment. Responsibilities: ·This position provides assistance and input to management, develops and leads large multifunctional development activities, solves complex technical problems, writes complex code for computer systems and serves as a senior source of expertise. The position may also provide sizing or budget recommendations to management. ACCOUNTABILITIES Serve as a primary technical point of contact for external technology resources. ·Provide design input across a product. ·Work directly with customers and end users. ·Serve as acknowledged subject matter expert person on coding and technical issues. ·Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalise requirements. ·Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity. Complete complex bug fixes. Design and work with complex data models. ·Mentor lead software developers interested in consultancy on development methodologies and optimisation techniques.
