Overview

Job Title: Social Support Assistant Location: East Grinstead Hourly rate: £10 per hour Reference: DP6614 Hours/shifts : Role 1 - 6 hours every Friday during term time. Exact times to be agreed with employer. Role 2 - 14 hours per week during the 13 weeks per year Uni/College holidays. Monday-Friday. Exact times/days to be agreed and discussed with the employer as this can vary each week depending on needs. Summary I am a 20-year-old able bodied woman living with my mother. I have Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Social Communication Difficulties and Nystagmus. I would like to find someone to assist me to safely access my local community. My routine is extremely important to me and I require someone that can commit to working with me in my home along with accompanying me whilst out in the community. I would like someone that can use their own initiative in helping me to plan my day and suggest ideas on gaining new experiences which will benefit my life and wellbeing. I would really like someone to support me in becoming more independent and confident as this would greatly improve my quality of life. As I struggle with this it may take me a while to build a rapport with you. I would also like to be more confident with public transport so I can access my local community and take part in activities that I may find of interest. It would be ideal if you shared these interests so we could enjoy them together. Ideally, you will love animals, (I have a cat that is very special to me) and enjoy keeping up to date with popular tv programs ie. soaps & reality tv as well as music. I attend a college part time so also supporting me with my learning and education is important to me as well as improving my ability to interact with others so I have the freedom to participate in the things I enjoy. This would be a very rewarding role for the right person. Could you be that person? Other Requirements • Must be comfortable with pets • Must have a UK driving licence • Must have access to own vehicle • Non-smoker required Other : All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Social: • Support with general life skills • Support with coping skills to reduce anxiety • Support with communication skills • Build up a trusting and friendly rapport • Help improve awareness and safety while out in the community • Assist to access and partake in exercise • Assist to understand the value of money • Encourage and support with using public transport • Support and assistance with cooking/baking within the home with nutritional guidance • To participate in leisure and social activities of choice eg gym, swimming, ice skating, walking go-carting, horse-riding and climbing. • Suggest and organise new activities to try out together eg pottery painting, music concerts, cinema, jigsaws or a craft project. • To drive me in your own vehicle is required when public transport is not available. To be happy to drive near and far depending on the activities etc. This will be in exchange for 35p per mile mileage including parking expenses will be reimbursed. • Other related tasks may be required. Person specification The successful applicant will be: • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality • Reliable with good time-keeping • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative- Very important • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties • Honest and cheerful • Easy going tolerant personality with good knowledge of local area • Able to build up a good rapport and basis of trust with employer • Positive and patient attitude with excellent interpersonal skills • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
