Regional Resilience Coxswain / Mechanic Aberdeen, Buckie, Fraserburgh or Peterhead (with travel to other lifeboat stations) About Us Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. We’re looking for a Regional Resilience Coxswain / Mechanic to join our Lifesaving Operations Team. Some of the Benefits - Salary from £30,978 (dependent on experience) - Flexible working - 26 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays - Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 24% of basic salary) - Life assurance - Health and dental cashplan Your Role As a Regional Resilience Coxswain / Mechanic, you will: - Be required to develop and mentor the Lifeboat Station to ensure your role can be utilised as a resilience person within Scotland - Be competent to carry out Coxswain, Helm and/or Mechanic duties as required at lifeboat stations in the Scotland region during periods of relief cover - Inspiring and motivating your team; managing their progress by leading them on seagoing exercises, conducting shore-based training, identifying ways they can improve and imparting your valuable knowledge - Be responsible for the management and welfare of the station volunteers - Meeting and talking to the general public about the RNLI and the work the station does - Taking the lead on Safety, Health and Environment issues, helping to develop a positive culture within the stations - Spending time in the day to day running of the Lifeboat Station; this may be in the form of answering emails, ensuring maintenance records are maintained or updating the station’s monthly assurance report In this role we are looking for the successful candidate to be based out of Buckie, Fraserburgh, Peterhead or Aberdeen Lifeboat Station. You will mentor and develop the station to its full potential. Alongside working out of your lifeboat station, this role will be required to provide resilience for ALB and ILB lifeboat stations primarily throughout the Grampian area but you may be required to cover at stations across Scotland and on occasion elsewhere in the UK and Ireland. About You You may already be a lifeboat coxswain and/or mechanic, or you may not be either. Although current RNLI qualifications are desirable, training and development is available for candidates offering suitable maritime/mechanical experience. External qualifications are desirable. To be considered as the Regional Resilience Coxswain / Mechanic, you will need: - Demonstrable leadership experience in an operational role. Excellent communication and operational leadership skills - Thorough maritime knowledge and the ability to command and lead a team - To be able to safely handle and/or operate boats up to 20 metres in length in a variety of conditions - Knowledge of RNLI/SAR and lifeboat operations - Experience of working within assurance and audit systems - Sound knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental considerations within the workplace Other organisations may call this role Coxswain, Helm, Mechanic, Lifeboat Station Manager, Lifeboat Mechanic, Lifeboat Driver, Lifeboat Captain, All-Weather Lifeboat Driver, SAR Specialist, or SAR Manager. As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.
