What’s the role? Shift: Rotating Days & Nights Eddie Stobart Logistics operates across a broad array of multi sectors including e-commerce, manufacturing, industrial & bulk, retail and consumer. Our largest site at Goresbrook (RM9) is a 24/7 operation with c. 120 vehicles with 200 drivers. The site is multi-functional and offers warehousing and transport facilities to an array of blue chip customers. A new and exciting role has arisen for a Transport Shift Manager to join our enthusiastic and hardworking team. Working collaboratively with the Transport Manager, you will continue to maintain the effective running of the operation, helping to build a better business for the future. What will I be responsible for? Maintaining the safety and cost-effective utilisation of all drivers and equipment using a bespoke in-house system Owning and monitoring the driver de-brief process understanding and managing performance issues Manage all aspects of driver performance to achieve or surpass expectations and KPI's Ensuring personnel files are up to date incorporating licence validation, personal details, completed training Working closely with the Transport Manager to ensure KPI’s are met To support the daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to urgent queries Ensure that the Transport Manager & the H&S team are made aware of all accidents, dangerous occurrences & near misses adhering to company policies and procedures Ensure that all daily vehicle check, vehicle inspection & defect reporting procedures are in place Administering the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme including servicing & MOTs Responsible for co-ordinating and managing all driver issues from recruitment to driver payments, queries and investigations Ensuring all training needs are met for drivers including re-training and development Build constructive working relationships with internal and external customers and colleagues What experience will I need? We are looking for candidates who have previous and relevant experience working in a busy transport and logistics industry. A good knowledge of regulations and legal requirements is highly desirable. The candidate should have good IT skills, and experience using planning tools and Microsoft applications. Good communication skills is key for this role as you will be engaging with colleagues and stakeholders from across the business.
