Rare opportunity for a Construction Solicitor to work as In-house Counsel (Construction) at a leading construction and property development company based in Greater Manchester. Company: Our Greater Manchester client is a leading player in the UK construction sector, building everything from residential developments and student accommodation to hospitals, schools, industrial units, highways, utilities and sports facilities. It is a successful and busy business with a wide range of clients and plenty of interesting projects under construction at any one time. Role - In-house Counsel (Construction): To support further growth at the business, and to help drive down external legal spend, the Head of Legal seeks to recruit a c years' PQE (although those with more/less PQE will be considered) solicitor to join the in-house legal department. Key Accountabilities: Under the support and direction of the Head of Legal you will: · Review/ reporting on and negotiation of Building Contracts/ Framework Agreements and ancillary documentation (sub-contracts, consultant appointments, novations, collateral warranties, confidentiality agreements, vesting etc); · Provide legal and strategic advice to the Commercial function on tender submissions and live projects; · Provide support in relation to contentious construction matters; · Working with pre-construction teams to review and amend tender submissions; · Provide initial advice, with external support where necessary, on other legal matters which arise. e competition law, bribery, public procurement, intellectual property, employment, GDPR, property etc; · Prepare/ provide legal guidance and training sessions to commercial colleagues; · Appropriately manage external legal resource and control of legal spend; About You: This role has a strong focus on general building, construction and associated bids/tenders and projects matters. Applicants for the position of Legal Counsel (Construction) must have existing construction law (and/or projects) experience gained at a reputable law firm or equivalent in-house legal department. Sector experience including knowledge of construction/engineering projects and standard/main forms of contract (JCT and NEC) are essential. As with the majority of in-house roles, you should be comfortable dealing with a wide range of people across the business, whilst being comfortable acting autonomously in a commercial, fast-paced environment.
