Overview
I am recruiting for a Head of Piping / Lead Principal Piping Engineer for a consultancy business. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established organisation who enjoys the technical day to day challenges as well as managing and leading teams. Day to day the candidate will have the following responsibilities: - Lead a team of piping engineers and designers with an expectation of 70 % hands on technical perspective and 30% managing the team. Ensure the safe working of the Piping Department and compliance with CDM Regulations. Responsible for the technical integrity of the designs produced by the Piping Department. Development of overall concepts and specifications for engineering designs. Supervising and allocating work to engineers and designers and ensuring compliance to the company Integrated Management System (IMS) procedures within the department. Allocation of man hour budget for work scopes. Ensure the delivery of engineering scope of work to the agreed project programme and within budgeted man hours. Ensuring weekly updating of the engineering progress sheets. Preparing engineering specifications and calculations and other documentation as required. Checking and approving specifications, calculations and drawings. Liaising with other engineering disciplines to ensure interdisciplinary compatibility on projects. Interface with Lead Discipline / Senior Discipline Engineers on control and coordination of scope changes to base man hour estimates and deliverables. Interface with Lead Discipline / Senior Discipline Engineer on engineering progress data and reporting. Liaising with Clients on engineering contracts and design services. Attend meeting internal and external (Client/3rd Party) as required for work scopes. Implementation of approved quality procedures in the department. Working to quality plan and IMS procedures. Liaison with the Manager of Engineering with regard to workload and resource planning. Preparation and/or approval of man hour estimates and technical proposals. Support sales effort with Client presentations and face to face meetings. Carry out performance appraisals for direct reports. Identification of competency training requirements and informing the Manager of Engineering for implementation. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: A piping function specialist, with experience of team management, a deep understanding and broad experience in the piping discipline with at least ten years experience. Chartered Engineer status with membership of an appropriate industry body. Degree qualified or equivalent in a related engineering subject. In depth knowledge of piping design in a process environment including pipe stressing etc. Ability to perform static and dynamic pipe stress analysis. In depth knowledge of Engineering Practices, Codes and Regulations related to particular piping design requirements. Thorough knowledge of design specifications and standards used in the Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil & gas Industries. A knowledge of static and rotating equipment preferred. A knowledge of pipeline design preferred. Knowledge of current HSE Legislation and Regulations. Good grasp of each stage of the project execution process. Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
