Trading Standards Officer
Overview
We are looking for an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join our east London local authority client on a temporary basis Previous experience of lettings agency work would be an advantage Role Purpose: To lead on investigations and projects; to help assist in tasking meetings in determining resources and networking with other agencies and bodies and take those tasks forward. To support the rest of the team by ensuring work carried out meets corporate objectives. Successfully deliver projects/investigations in an efficient and effective way and on time Work with the team and establish good working partnerships with all stakeholders to maximise resources to deliver work outlined above Confident in making decisions and efficient in recording their work in the Council's systems Confident in representing trading standards at various levels within the council and externally Good IT skills in carrying out investigative work online As Intelligence Led authority an excellent skill set in working with TS Intelligence Operating Model, very capable of handling intelligence and submitting intelligence to other agencies, desirable skills in INTEL analysis Excellent working knowledge of both civil and criminal enforcement procedures under appropriate legislation which includes issuing Fixed Penalty Notices Home Authority role for some companies and have good business advisory skills across the TS legislative spectrum Reports directly to Principal TSO as trading standards expert and to the Business Compliance manager. To lead other members of the team and other agencies involved where appropriate. Relationships; To maintain and establish good working relationships with other enforcement agencies at all working levels including; Internally – other regulatory services – EH and licensing, community safety, Public Health, housing, adult social care - protecting vulnerable adults, benefits Externally – relevant police teams, ASA, Anti-Counterfeiting Group, Immigration, Action Fraud, LOTSA, NTS, other local authority agencies, HMRC Identifying new contacts with other agencies to help assist the Council in its work. Work Environment: The Council operates an Agile Working policy so there is flexibility in how and where you operate in meeting your work objectives. Outdoor working is carrying out key project work and investigative work, including business advice and Home Authority work. On occasion some out of hours working will be required. Technical Knowledge and Experience: Minimum DCATS qualified or equivalent including Weights and Measures with at least two years post qualification experience. Detailed knowledge of trading standards legislation including Fair Trading and Product Safety. [Food not required as not enforced by TS] Skilled in dealing with intelligence including analysing and submitting 5x5x5s, ability to use Memex or equivalent would be desirable. Confident and competent in carrying out and leading investigations/projects, ensuring they meet set objectives.
