System Engineering National Technical Lead
Overview
The Opportunity The Capability & Governance Directorate has the responsibility for managing the international functional improvement activities for the Engineering Directorate. This involves a myriad of activities including research & development; management of major improvement initiatives; the development of policies and guidance to help our engineers develop our systems; knowledge accessibility; future skill identification and training. Specifically, there are activities to improve our MBDA’s Systems Engineering practices, including Model Based Engineering in support of an end-to-end Digital Engineering capability. To help us deliver this remit, we are looking for a National Technical Lead who to deliver and co-ordinate the UK elements of the international Systems Engineering Improvement Activities What are we looking for? Significant Systems Engineering experience, including experience of the application to projects of model based techniques Current or Future Technical Expertin SE domain Confidence in working in an international environment Confidence in working with many different stakeholders, from practitioners to senior managers. Ability to understand processes, and how to tailor them as applicable to stakeholder needs Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, able to build effective and productive relationships Understanding of wider aspects/implications of problems and issues Able to cope with a rapidly changing environment Good mediator and communicator when dealing with a range of people in different disciplines Able to stimulate and inspire others Experience of managing/working on improvement programmes is desirable but not essential Experience of international team working is desirable but not essential What’s in it for you? The Role Capability & Governance is expanding, and is currently managing several critical improvement projects across MBDA. The role involves supporting the international cohesion of Systems Engineering culture and practice. Activities include: Work with the Head of Systems Engineering to deliver the multi-year Model Based Engineering plan. Work with National Capability Teams to bring appropriate cohesion to the national culture and practices Act as a focal point for the international Systems Engineering culture and practice within home nation, informing the international Systems Engineering Strategy with national needs and issues. Contribute to the International Systems Engineering Communities of Practice or Focus Groups Mentoring other Systems Engineering practitioners Assessment of model based practice against the MBE Maturity Model. Work with the wider Processes and Methods team and National Capability Teams to develop and pilot new methods where appropriate What’s great about the team?
