Give your career a positive change with an exciting opportunity which has become available at Cygnet Hospital Taunton to cover our Acute Older Adult Male and Female Services. We are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor to start, working Monday - Friday 09.00 - 17.00 (1:3 on call included in salary). Cygnet Hospital Taunton provides specialist inpatient services for older adults with mental health problems and for men diagnosed with a learning disability. The hospital also provides an acute inpatient admissions service for men over the age of 18. The Opportunity As a Specialty Doctor you will have clinical responsibility patients under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist within the older adult male and female acute psychiatric wards. The service provides a safe and stabilising environment for older men and women who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission. You will work as part of a close-knit and caring team to include; Allied Health Professionals, Psychology, Management, Nursing and Support Staff. In this role, you will carry out mental state examination of newly admitted patients along with assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. You will be confident in assessing a wide range of psychiatric disorders alongside a supportive multi-disciplinary team. Participation in weekly Ward Rounds and in other multidisciplinary meetings, including Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA’s), Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT’s) and Section 117 meetings, ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned. As this role focuses on the physical well-being of patients the ideal candidate will have a General Medical or GP background, or a Psychiatry background with extensive experience in aspects of General Medicine. Full GMC registration and an MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity The ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgment / experience in making clinical decision and managing risk and knows when to seek help Excellent verbal / written communication skills along with the ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development) The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team Desirable: Section 12 Desirable: Royal College of Psychiatrists membership (MRCPsych) or equivalent You Will Be Offered: Salary up to £90,000 (Depending on Experience) Study leave to attend CPD opportunities, conferences etc. Monthly CPD Grand Rounds where you will attend educational meetings and get the opportunity to meet fellow psychiatrist from across the region. You will get the opportunity to rotate within the wards/services to gain experience across various subspecialties. You will be assigned an educational supervisor who will review your progress weekly and oversee your educational development. You will get support with the MRCPsych exams. Able to demonstrate the abilities, experience and skills needed to deal effectively and constructively with conflict in challenging situations, you have taken an active part in service improvement and in developing your knowledge and skills in the use of psychological treatments.
