Overview

The Role Shawbrook is a specialist UK lending and savings bank founded in 2011 to serve the needs of SMEs and individuals in the UK with a range of lending and savings products. We are looking for a Head of Compliance Advice to join our team based in Redhill. As part of the compliance function leadership team, you are responsible for supporting the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure that Shawbrook is compliant with both internal and external policies and regulations. Working with the CCO to oversee the development and implementation of a control framework, policies, processes and procedures that facilitate compliance and work with other executives to ensure compliance throughout all divisions within the group. You will also be responsible for leading the bank’s regulatory change function to ensure that the group identifies, tracks and monitors external laws, regulations, and industry standards. Responsibilities Strategy Work as part of the compliance function leadership team to support the CCO with the formulation of conduct and compliance strategy and best practice to effectively support the group in the delivery of its goals. Consults proactively with the executive and management to set conduct and compliance policies and oversee the development of procedures interpreting change designed to achieve compliance with applicable laws and regulations, which are responsive to regulatory requirements, and customised proportionately to the affected businesses, incorporating regulatory guidance, as appropriate. Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future. Board/Relationships Reports to management where necessary to ensure that concerns and recommendations are clearly articulated so that appropriate action can be taken by the business divisions as necessary. Relationship management of regulatory bodies, FCA, FLA and co-ordination of associated visits, reviews and documented responses. Relationship management of trade associations, UK Finance, CML, FLA and co-ordination of representation at relevant working groups and feedback to industry consultations. Takes a lead role on behalf the group in influencing proposed changes in applicable laws and regulations to reflect the size and complexity of the group whilst ensuring the spirit of the changes is intact. Works closely with the general counsel & legal team on the identification of new and changes in existing laws, regulations, and industry standards and takes a leadership role to ensure the group remains compliant. Operations Lead the group’s conduct risk and compliance advice function. Supporting the CCO in providing leadership and counsel to the group, including ensuring compliant controls are built into growth initiatives and new products. Developing the group’s compliance policy, driving training, and ensuring process improvements are made operational, monitored and tested in an auditable manner. Partner with the bank’s legal function and lead the group’s regulatory change function to remain up to date in relation to changes in laws and regulations and recommend appropriate changes as needed. Leadership/People Effective Leadership of the conduct and compliance advice team within the compliance function Effective forward and feedback communication channels within function to inculcate coherence and a team spirit. Ensure that staff maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, integrity, and control in execution of all their daily operations. Set performance objectives and key performance indicators, for performance monitoring and quality measurement purposes for the compliance advice team. Recruiting, developing and retaining talented people/skill sets to ensure appropriate succession plans are in place for function. The Person Experience Experience of advising business areas and stakeholders on compliance and conduct issues within your current or previous roles, including at a strategic level. Experience in engaging and challenging business areas on compliance and conduct matters, supporting the management of relationships in a clear and structured way. Technical knowledge & skills Deep technical knowledge of the UK regulatory framework including consumer credit and mortgage regulation. Practical understanding of the regulatory requirements and demonstrating compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, policies and codes governing the retail banking industry.
