Overview
Working for a cloud based software house Basically new customers will have existing historical data in a variety of data formats on a myriad of systems. Your job is to work out how to migrate that data into this companies systems to allow new customers to have their historical data to hand. There are already standard scripts developed from various common off the shelf packages which need continual updating but this role is also to deal with the more bespoke. As such the role is part detective as you request sample data sets etc and then set about working ou the best approach to migrate that into a format that will easily import in their SQL Server backend. As such as well as decent SQL-Server / T-SQL you should have an appreciation of a number of other databases and the general principles of RDBMS's, any knowledge of scripting or general programming languages such as c# obviously useful. You must be a tenacious and dedicated worker able and willing to document your processes and outcomes as well as have communication skills to liaise with clients and give them confidence in the integrity of their historical data as it is translated.
