Overview
Service Care Solutions are looking for a Civilian Investigator to cover a major contract in the Merton area. A local Police force is looking to recruit a team of Civilian Investigators to work within their Serious Collisions unit. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is a specialist unit which investigates Fatal and Serious Personal Injury collisions. It is a nationally recognised unit in this specialist area. The role of civilian investigator is to investigate fatal/SPI collisions and other road related crimes. The work sometimes involves complex and high profile investigations where the full range of investigative tactics is required, including media appeals, forensic submission and witness statements. The role will include attending the scene within the 'golden hour' and the 'post-crash' response in terms of investigation and family liaison. Essential criteria: • Good verbal and written communication skills. Level 2 PIP • Recent evidence of the investigation of road death or major/complex investigations. Family Liaison officer trained or experience. Achieving best evidence trained (ABE) or Tier 3 trained Role Profile: Comply with the requirements of the Road Death Investigation Manual of Guidance in relation to fatal road traffic collision investigations. Ensure compliance with the OCU Health and Safety Policy and risk assessments in relation to collision investigation, vehicle examination and family liaison. Attend and under the direction of the SIO manage Road traffic collision and complex road crime scenes. In conjunction with the SIO, formulate a proactive witness tracing strategy. This may include 999 tape requests, including London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade. Also consider cash point and Oyster card trace, ANPR, local retail transactions etc. This list is not exhaustive. Interview suspects involved in investigations. After carrying out a risk assessment, PNC, CRIMINT checks, etc., contact and interview witnesses. All actions should be recorded on the CRIS record. Maintain liaison with witnesses, using book 192A, if directed. Maintain appropriate levels of contact with identified victims of crime in accordance with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime. Maintain regular liaison with the SIO. Use criminal intelligence systems to support an investigation. Create and maintain CRIS records, as appropriate. Complete Merlin reports in cases involving child death and unidentified victims. Update investigation team members of any relevant developments. Maintain appropriate levels of contact with identified victims of crime in accordance with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime. Maintain appropriate levels of contact with outside agencies that have a bearing on the investigation of road death, i.e. Health and Safety Executive, Local Authorities, Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, etc. This is a Civilian Investigator (ex-officer) role, meaning that candidates must have worked directly for a UK based police force in order to be considered.
